The number is the lowest recorded in Gallup\u2019s trend, which dates back to 2000.<\/p>\n<p>The poll surveyed a random sample of 1,005 adults via telephone interviews conducted between Sept. 1-17. The poll had a margin of error of four percentage points.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"6.747572815534\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">40% of Americans approve of the job the Supreme Court is doing, a new low in Gallup\u2019s 21-year trend. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/oNZ0xnXk2p\">https:\/\/t.co\/oNZ0xnXk2p<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vMbUZbMZG3\">pic.twitter.com\/vMbUZbMZG3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 John Gramlich (@johngramlich) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/johngramlich\/status\/1441026686875734020?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 23, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The latest numbers from Gallup\u2019s annual Governance survey indicate a considerable drop in approval compared to 2020, when 58% of respondents had a positive opinion about the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Gallup\u2019s polling data points to similar lows in 2005, when the court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/2004\/04-108\">ruled<\/a> in favor of eminent domain, and in 2016, when the court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/2012\/11-345\">ruled<\/a> in favor of a college\u2019s affirmative action program.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to numbers in Sept. 2020 and in July, all respondents regardless of political affiliation were <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/28\/supreme-court-lowest-approval-rating-four-years\/\">less likely to say<\/a> they approve of the job the Supreme Court is doing. Republicans\u2019 and independents\u2019 approval of the court dropped 12 points from last year to 45% and 41% respectively, while Democrats\u2019 approval dropped 13 points from last year to 36%. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/17\/clarence-thomas-supreme-court-most-dangerous-branch-government\/\">(RELATED: Clarence Thomas: The Supreme Court Could Be The \u2018Most Dangerous\u2019 Branch Of Government)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A plurality of Americans have long viewed the Supreme Court as being \u201cabout right\u201d ideologically, with 40% describing the court that way in the latest poll. But a growing number of Americans believe the court has become \u201ctoo conservative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The court currently has a 6-3 conservative majority and all three of former President Donald Trump\u2019s nominees now sit on the bench.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court has issued several high-profile and politically contentious opinions in the last two months alone. The court <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/26\/supreme-court-brett-kavanaugh-joe-biden-cdc-eviction-moratorium\/\">blocked<\/a> a Biden administration attempt to extend a federal evictions moratorium and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/12\/supreme-court-amy-coney-barrett-indiana-vaccine-covid-19\/\">declined to block<\/a> Indiana University\u2019s vaccine requirement in August.
