Cori Bush (D-MO), a leading proponent of the unpopular \u201cDefund the Police\u201d movement.<\/p>\n<p>The Vermont-based ice cream company announced the new flavor on Monday, which is called \u201cChange is Brewing\u201d and features coffee ice cream with marshmallow swirls and fudge brownie bites. In a statement announcing the flavor, Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s said: \u201cIt\u2019s time to divest from systems that criminalize Black communities &amp; invest in a vision of public safety that allows everyone to breathe free.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NBC News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/ben-jerrys-unveils-new-flavor-support-rep-cori-bushs-public-safety-bil-rcna2109\">reported<\/a> that the flavor is intended to promote the People\u2019s Response Act, which was introduced by Bush and would replace police officers with social workers who would respond to mental health incidents. As Bush told NBC, her bill would divert funding from police departments to \u201cgrassroots organizations already doing the work of keeping our communities safe, and creating alternative responses to 911 calls for mental health emergencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe People\u2019s Response Act can and will transform public safety in our country. This is the future that we deserve \u2014 and Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s support of this bill shows the momentum we have towards making it a reality,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>While Bush has publicly supported defunding police departments, her campaign spent about $70,000 on private security. When CBS News asked Bush about the hypocrisy, she claimed that she needed the security, suggesting others don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to make sure I have security because I know I have had attempts on my life and I have too much work to do,\u201d Bush said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democrat-cori-bush-i-get-private-security-to-protect-me-so-suck-it-up-and-defund-the-police\">according to The Daily Wire<\/a>. \u201cThere are too many people that need help right now for me to allow that. So, if I end up spending $200,000, if I spend $10 more dollars on it, you know what, I get to be here to do the work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, suck it up and defunding the police has to happen,\u201d she added. \u201cWe need to defund the police and put that money into social safety nets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cori-bush-spent-70000-on-private-security-now-shes-doubling-down-on-defunding-the-police\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"21.823293172691\">\n<p><em>Bush\u2019s campaign spent $54,120.92 between April and June for \u201csecurity services\u201d to a firm called RS&amp;T Security Consulting. She also paid $15,000 to Nathaniel Davis for \u201csecurity services\u201d over the same period. She has spent over $100,000 on private security so far this year.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>According to a recent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/report-the-squad-spent-thousands-on-private-security-while-demanding-police-be-defunded\">report<\/a>&nbsp;from The Daily Caller released earlier this year, other \u201cSquad\u201d members also spent thousands of taxpayer dollars on private security. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) paid $24,279.13 for \u201csecurity\u201d on January 25, as well as $3,986.60 for \u201csecurity services\u201d on January 19 and $849.22 on February 2. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) spent $3,103.61 for her personal security, while Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) spent $4,186.75.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is not the first time Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s has sided with social justice causes and activists that are unpopular with wide swaths of the American public. From The Daily Caller:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"7.3356164383562\">\n<p><em>In 2020,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/20\/united-states-state-department-rejects-bds-movement-ben-and-jerrys-israel-ban\/\">Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;partnered with Colin Kaepernick to create a nonfat frozen yogurt called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/washington\/colin-kaepernick-has-his-own-ben-jerrys-ice-cream-flavor\">Change the Whirled<\/a>\u201d where proceeds funded his social justice organization called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.knowyourrightscamp.com\/\">Know Your Rights Camp<\/a>.\u201d In 2016, Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s publicly supported Black Lives Matter in a blog post.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The ice cream maker has also been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/backlash-from-inside-ben-jerrys-franchisees-losing-money-want-israel-boycott-gone\">accused of anti-Semitism<\/a> for boycotting Israel, with franchises losing money after the boycott was announced and demanding it be lifted.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
