Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) and N.Y. assemblyman Zohran Kwame Mamdani (D.) \/ Twitter\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\t\t\t<span class=\"text-gray text-xs md:text-lg\"><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/author\/chuck-ross\/\" title=\"Posts by Chuck Ross\" class=\"author url fn text-red-700\" rel=\"author\">Chuck Ross<\/a> \u2022 September 22, 2021 5:30 pm<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div readability=\"74.132436260623\">\n<p>Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) on Tuesday released a pro-union video that features him alongside a New York state assemblyman who supports the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer and Zohran Kwame Mamdani (D.), an assemblyman from Queens, released <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenSchumer\/status\/1440734501328461832\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a two-minute video<\/a> in support of the 25,000-member New York Taxi Workers Alliance. Schumer and Mamdani spoke out against what they said are predatory loans for taxi medallions in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>A self-described democratic socialist, Mamdani supports various left-wing causes, including BDS and the movement to defund police departments. He has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zohrankmamdani\/status\/1298764871169986561\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> BDS &#8220;a righteous movement for liberation&#8221; and has spoken out against U.S. aid to Israel. Mamdani at a rally this year criticized elected officials for accepting taxpayer-funded trips to Israel. He also blasted officials who march in parades in support of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We ought to let them know that there are three letters that we have as an answer to what&#8217;s happening in Palestine, and it&#8217;s \u2018BDS,'&#8221; Mamdani <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ZohranKMamdani\/status\/1392567432829706249\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> at a May 12 rally.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer, who is Jewish, has been a staunch opponent of the BDS movement. He&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.schumer.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/schumer-co-sponsors-bipartisan-legislation-to-combat-bds-bill-protects-states-and-localities-that-divest-from-entities-engaging-in-bds-activity-targeting-israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cosponsored<\/a> legislation in March 2017&nbsp;with Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) to protect state and local governments that cut ties with companies that boycott Israel. He <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/issues\/schumer-slams-bds-movement-one-word-anti-semitism\/\">called<\/a> BDS an anti-Semitic movement in 2018. Schumer has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/40000-people-show-support-for-israel-at-manhattan-parade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">repeatedly<\/a> marched in the pro-Israel parades that Mamdani decried this year.<\/p>\n<p>Though Schumer and Mamdani are at odds on the BDS issue, the Senate leader has in recent months courted the left wing of his party to ward off a potential primary challenge next year. Schumer has held a series of meetings with activists in New York and Washington to burnish his progressive credentials, the <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/07\/us\/politics\/schumer-impeachment-new-york.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. Rep.
