Apple hopes that would become the basis for unique features for its devices, according to the people and documents.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">The moves come as a result of a partnership Apple began with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and Biogen Inc., a pharmaceutical company, specifically focused on behavioral research. UCLA is \u201cstudying stress, anxiety and depression\u201d while Biogen is \u201cstudying mild cognitive impairment,\u201d per the outlet.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While Biogen began its study on Monday, most of the details about Apple\u2019s research haven\u2019t been shared, and representatives for Apple, UCLA, and Biogen did not provide comments to The Journal.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Individuals familiar with the matter told The Journal that the research efforts might never fully become new features incorporated into Apple\u2019s gadgets.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Biogen study will last for two years and include around 20,000 people who are participating. Half of the people involved in the study will reportedly be at a \u201chigh risk of cognitive impairment.\u201d The company involved in the research in hopes that it can aid Apple\u2019s development of an iPhone trait that can tell people to get help or seek out early testing for cognitive deterioration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Biogen is also known for its drug Aduhelm, which is meant to be used for people who have early onset of Alzheimer\u2019s and was given approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) earlier this year.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">When it comes to the UCLA study, the school has noted that its study involving signs of anxiety, depression, and stress started with an initial phase last year and will go on \u201cwith a main phase tracking similar data for 3,000 people starting this year,\u201d per The Journal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">People involved with the research \u201cwill track data from the iPhone\u2019s video camera, keyboard and audio sensors, and data from the watch related to movement, vital signs and sleep, according to the documents and people familiar with the study.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe data that may be used includes analysis of participants\u2019 facial expressions, how they speak, the pace and frequency of their walks, sleep patterns, and heart and respiration rates.
