Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), and\u00a0Ted Cruz (R-Texas), is called the\u00a0COVID-19 Vaccine Dishonorable Discharge Prevention Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNotwithstanding any other provision of law, a member of an Armed Force under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-military\">military<\/a> department subject to discharge on the basis of the member choosing not\u00a0to receive the COVID-19 vaccine may only receive an honorable discharge,\u201d reads the text of the bill (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/files\/documents\/Bills\/20210921_MilitaryDischargeVaccineBill.pdf\">pdf<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>According to the text: \u201cReports of adverse actions being taken, or threatened, by military leadership at all levels are\u00a0antithetical to our fundamental American values. Any discharge other than honorable denotes\u00a0a dereliction of duty or a failure to serve the United\u00a0States and its people to the best of the ability of an individual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The proposed legislation comes after the Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/pentagon-to-require-covid-19-vaccine-for-troops_3940392.html\">announced mandatory shots<\/a> in August and started to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/defense-secretary-orders-us-troops-to-quickly-get-vaccinated-against-covid-19_3964787.html?v=ul\">compel all\u00a0military departments<\/a> to implement the COVID-19 vaccine requirements.\u00a0Service members who have survived a previous COVID-19 infection are not automatically exempt from being required to be fully vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps have all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us-army-sets-deadlines-for-covid-19-vaccines-threatens-disciplinary-action_3997936.html\">set deadlines<\/a> for COVID-19 vaccination for service members and reserve members. If they\u00a0fail to comply and don\u2019t have a pending exemption request, they could be punished via \u201crelief of duties or discharge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A dishonorable discharge would mean that the service member would have to surrender a slew of rights and benefits, including ownership of any sort of firearm or ammunition, access to the G.I. Bill for further education, Veterans Affairs home loans and medical benefits, military funeral honors, and reenlistment in another military branch.<\/p>\n<p>Marshall, who led in introducing the measure, said in a statement, \u201cAs a physician and veteran who is confident that the vaccine has saved countless lives, I believe vaccinating our service members against COVID-19 is an important effort; however, whether or not to receive the vaccine should be a personal choice between an individual and their doctor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cService members who refuse to get vaccinated, and are subsequently separated from the service, should not receive anything other than an honorable discharge,\u201d he said. \u201cThere is no question about it: American heroes should not be treated as felons because of their personal medical choices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cruz echoed Marshall\u2019s sentiments, adding in a separate statement:\u00a0\u201cForcing all service members, including pregnant women and those who have already had COVID-19, to receive the vaccine is just one more example of President [Joe] Biden and his administration putting politics ahead of science. I am proud to join Sen. Marshall on this crucial bill to ensure the proper steps are taken by the military chain of command in response to those seeking exemptions from this vaccine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The proposed legislation comes after Rep.\u00a0Mark Green\u00a0(R-Tenn.), a physician and a former Army officer, earlier this month\u00a0introduced similar language\u00a0in an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, the Biden administration has been imposing mandates on other groups and earlier this month\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ntd.com\/biden-mandates-covid-19-vaccines-for-federal-workers_673533.html\">issued COVID-19 mandates<\/a> that involve all federal workers, government contractors, and their employees to be vaccinated against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/giving-the-right-name-to-the-virus-causing-a-worldwide-pandemic-2_3277200.html\">CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Biden also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/biden-plans-covid-19-vaccine-mandate-for-80-million-private-sector-workers_673522.html\">sought to compel<\/a> companies with over 100 employees to mandate vaccinations or weekly testing, which is expected to affect more than 80 million workers in the private sector.<\/p>\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/WEB_MimiNguyen_1.jpg\" alt=\"Mimi Nguyen Ly\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"names\">\n<p>Mimi Nguyen Ly<\/p>\n<p>Reporter<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Follow<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Mimi Nguyen Ly is a reporter based in Australia.
