Pfizer and its German partner, BioNTech, say they saw positive results when they gave younger children one-third of the adult dose of the vaccine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The children who received the modified dose \u2014 administered in two stages \u2014 showed similar levels of antibodies as vaccinated teens.<\/span><b>Remember: <\/b><span>Pfizer\u2019s data has not been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/changing-america\/well-being\/prevention-cures\/572996-groundbreaking-study-finds-pfizer-vaccine-safe\"><span>peer-reviewed<\/span><\/a><span> or published yet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Side Effects<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Pfizer says the younger children they tested suffered no more severe side effects than teens or adults: mostly soreness, fatigue, or headaches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The company says it found no cases of myocarditis \u2014 the heart inflammation found as a side effect primarily in teenage boys \u2014 but the company can\u2019t rule it out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Timeline<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Pfizer says it will seek emergency authorization promptly \u2014 but first, it has to submit its research to the FDA. Once that happens, acting commissioner Janet Woodcock has said the FDA could approve the vaccine in \u201ca matter of weeks.\u201d Dr. Scott Gottlieb \u2014 her predecessor, who is now on Pfizer\u2019s board \u2014 said the vaccine could be ready by late October or November.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>COVID-19 And Kids<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Children have a smaller number of serious infections than adults. According to the CDC, a total of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/nvss\/vsrr\/covid_weekly\/index.htm#SexAndAge\"><span>439<\/span><\/a><span> children under the age of 18 have died from COVID-19 as of September 15, out of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aap.org\/en\/pages\/2019-novel-coronavirus-covid-19-infections\/children-and-covid-19-state-level-data-report\/\"><span>almost 5.3 million<\/span><\/a><span> infections.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Only <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/data.cdc.gov\/NCHS\/Provisional-COVID-19-Deaths-Focus-on-Ages-0-18-Yea\/nr4s-juj3\"><span>280<\/span><\/a><span> children between the ages of 5 and 18 have died with the disease over the course of the pandemic.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The number of children being hospitalized with COVID-19 rose over the summer, but now appears to be declining. Children make up less than 2% of all COVID-19 hospitalizations nationwide.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Doctors say many of those hospitalizations come from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/kids-hospitalized-covid-experts-arent-sure-re-sicker-rcna2041\"><span>co-infections<\/span><\/a><span>, where the child has another condition in addition to COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Vaccine Mandates<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>The nation\u2019s largest school district, LAUSD, the Los Angeles United School District, already <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health-news\/will-more-schools-follow-los-angeles-lead-and-require-covid-19-vaccination\"><span>demands<\/span><\/a><span> that all students age 12 and up be vaccinated to receive in-person instruction.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Dr. Anthony Fauci has endorsed mandating vaccines for children to go to school.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Looking ahead: <\/b><span>This likely won\u2019t stop with children who are five years old since infant testing is underway in some areas. Senator Schumer and the White House can and should ignore it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What Does It Mean?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>The Parliamentarian of the United States Senate is an official advisor to the Senate on the interpretation of the body\u2019s standing rules and parliamentary procedure. The parliamentarian serves at the pleasure of the Senate Majority Leader, with Elizabeth MacDonough holding the position since 2012 after being appointed by former Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Remember: <\/b><span>This is an advisory position, and the Presiding Officer can overrule the advice, but doing so would be unusual.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The parliamentarian is able to decide what is allowed under the Senate\u2019s Reconciliation process. I will not be forced to prove my health to participate in society.
