I don\u2019t have a date for you exactly,\u201d she said at a press briefing at the White House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important to note\u2014just to take a slight step back\u2014that there are still a couple of additional steps in the process,\u201d Psaki added.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S.\u00a0Food and Drug Administration\u00a0\u2019s vaccine advisory panel voted on Sept. 17 to endorse the Pfizer booster for individuals who are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fda-panel-votes-16-3-against-approving-pfizer-covid-19-booster-shots_4002895.html\">aged 65 and older<\/a> and for those who are at high risk of contracting COVID-19, the disease caused by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/giving-the-right-name-to-the-virus-causing-a-worldwide-pandemic-2_3277200.html\">CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That vote came after the same advisory panel on the same day voted 16\u20133 to recommend against boosters for\u00a0everyone over the age of 16, saying that\u00a0data is required to determine whether booster doses are safe and effective.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA has yet to follow through with the recommendation. It is not obliged to follow the guidance of an advisory panel, but it usually does.<\/p>\n<p>The role of the FDA is to approve or authorize vaccines, whereas the role of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is to recommend whether and how the vaccines are used.<\/p>\n<p>Psaki said that ACIP is now \u201cplanning to meet.\u201d The meeting about how to\u00a0distribute boosters across the country is scheduled next week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on their recommendation, we\u2019re, of course, prepared to operationalize on the plan,\u201d Psaki said. \u201cAnd that includes having the president get his booster shot as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president and First Lady Jill Biden received their first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Dec. 21, 2020, and their second doses on Jan. 11.<\/p>\n<p>Biden administration officials had\u00a0in mid-August <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-admin-recommends-covid-19-booster-shots-will-start-wide-distribution-on-sept-20_3954303.html\">announced in a joint statement<\/a>\u00a0that boosters would likely be available by Sept. 20. At the time, Biden said that the plan was for every adult to get a booster shot eight months after they received their second shot.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fauci-urges-americans-not-to-get-covid-19-vaccine-booster-shots-until-theyre-eligable_4006583.html\">said on Sept. 19<\/a> that\u00a0fully vaccinated Americans should not get a third shot of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine if they are not over 65 or not at high risk, and to wait until they are in a category that is recommended to take the shot.<\/p>\n<p>He said in an interview with CNN that there is \u201calways a theoretical risk\u201d if people go ahead and take the shot without following government guidance \u201cbecause the studies have not been done to look at the safety and the immunogenicity of doing that right now for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheoretically, if you look at things, it is very unlikely that there\u2019s going to be a risk there, but scientifically you don\u2019t want to go by \u2018unlikely.\u2019 You want to have some scientific proof,\u201d Fauci said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s the reason why right now we recommend that people go by the guidelines, according to the FDA approval and the CDC recommendations.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/WEB_MimiNguyen_1.jpg\" alt=\"Mimi Nguyen Ly\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"names\">\n<p>Mimi Nguyen Ly<\/p>\n<p>Reporter<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Follow<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Mimi Nguyen Ly is a reporter based in Australia.
