But moderates like West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin and Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema have <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/20\/joe-manchin-push-budget-back-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">called for a \u201cpause\u201d<\/a> on the budget\u2019s consideration and gone on-record opposing the $3.5 trillion size, making it all but certain that it will not be finalized a week from today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have a very small destructive group of members who want to hold the entire country\u2019s agenda hostage for an arbitrary date,\u201d New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mkraju\/status\/1440034736064249865?s=21\">told reporters<\/a> Monday, referring to the likes of Manchin, Sinema and several House moderates who have opposed certain provisions. \u201cAnd \u2026 it\u2019s not representative of the agenda of the caucus [or] the agenda of the president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m happy to show my cards,\u201d she added when asked if there was any chance progressives were bluffing and would not actually tank the bipartisan package, which passed the Senate in August with 19 Republicans joining all Democrats to vote in favor.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple other progressives, including Reps. Cori Bush, Jamaal Bowman and Ilhan Omar, have spoken along similar lines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will only vote for the infrastructure bill after passing the reconciliation bill,\u201d Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USProgressives\/status\/1430265877757415434\/photo\/1\">wrote<\/a> in August on behalf of the entire Congressional Progressive Caucus. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/07\/democrats-all-in-budget-joe-biden-congressional-majorities-passage-far-from-certain-budget-reconciliation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Democrats Are All In On The Largest Budget In History. (Alex Wong\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The disagreements between moderates and progressives give Democratic leadership almost no room to work with given their three-vote margin in the House and an equally divided Senate, and the fact that Republicans unanimously oppose the budget and mostly oppose the infrastructure bill.<\/p>\n<p>Sinema reportedly made a similar threat Monday, vowing to oppose Democrats\u2019 reconciliation package \u2013 effectively killing it as a result \u2013 if the Sept. 27 vote failed. She already <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/20\/internal-defections-democrats-plan-lower-drug-prices-major-peril\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">came out against its provision<\/a> allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices, mirroring three House Democrats who did the same last week even as President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer outlined it as a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/21\/schumer-medicare-expansions-bidens-infrastructure-families-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">top priority<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On top of the intensifying intraparty fight, Congress must also fund the government in the next 10 days to avoid a shutdown and raise the debt ceiling to prevent the country from defaulting on its debt. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/09\/congress-adds-items-jam-packed-september-budget-infrastructure-debt-ceiling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Congress\u2019 Weeks Ahead Are Extremely High-Stakes And Absolutely Brutal)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Republicans have vowed to not support a debt ceiling increase, instead telling Democrats to attach it to their budget, a move that they have yet to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am worried,\u201d Majority Whip Dick Durban, the no. 2 Senate Democrat, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/burgessev\/status\/1440049027433652228\">told reporters<\/a> Monday when asked about the possibility of a default.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
