Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is selling \u201cTax The Rich\u201d merchandise from her campaign store following her stunt at the Met Gala last week.<\/p>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez launched a line of campaign merchandise called the \u201cTax The Rich Collection\u201d after she wore a dress to the Met Gala emblazoned with the message \u201cTax The Rich.\u201d While Ocasio-Cortez insisted that the dress was a message to the attendees of the Met Gala, the self-described democratic socialist received heavy criticism for seemingly hobnobbing with the class of people she claimed to be against.<\/p>\n<p>According to her campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.ocasiocortez.com\/collections\/tax-the-rich\">website<\/a>, Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s \u201cTax The Rich\u201d line has six products: a sweatshirt for $58, a tee-shirt for $27, a \u201cdad hat\u201d for $28, a sticker pack for $10, a mug for $27, and a tote bag for $27.<\/p>\n<p>At the Met, Ocasio-Cortez said her dress was a statement for the \u201cworking class.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really started having a conversation about what it means to be a working-class woman of color at the Met,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez told reporters at the event. \u201cWe can\u2019t just play along, but we need to break the fourth wall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, a day after the Met Gala, Ocasio-Cortez took to social media to defend her appearance at the event after being accused of celebrating with the elite class she claimed to be speaking against. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/aoc-defends-its-my-responsibility-to-party-with-elites-haters\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"27\">\n<p><em>Far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) tried to defend herself online after she was swarmed with criticism for wearing an emblazoned \u201cTax the Rich\u201d dress to the Met Gala, where tables could reportedly cost more than $275,000 and individual tickets are priced at around $30,000.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>AOC scolded \u201chaters\u201d about the criticism and contended that going to the fancy event with rich elites was actually her just doing her job as a congresswoman in New York City.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAnd before haters get wild flying off the handle, New York elected officials are routinely invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing and supporting the city\u2019s cultural institutions for the public,\u201d the representative wrote via Twitter. \u201cI was one of several in attendance in this evening.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In the same Twitter thread, Ocasio-Cortez rationalized that the \u201cmedium is the message\u201d and emphasized that her designer is a \u201cBlack woman immigrant designer.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe medium is the message,\u201d read a screen-capped image from AOC\u2019s Instagram account.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s dress for the event was valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars. Her accessories, including gold hoop earrings and designer shoes were valued at hundreds of dollars each.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2018Tax the Rich\u2019 dress designed by Aurora James was worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9991549\/Self-proclaimed-socialist-AOC-bagged-free-Mejuri-jewelry-wearing-Tax-Rich-dress.html\">Daily Mail<\/a> noted, adding that the 14-karat designer Mejuri jewelry gold hoop earrings were listed as worth $450 and the open-toed red shoes from James\u2019 Brother Vellies fashion line were valued at roughly $614.
