Though the payments \u2014 which began on July 15 \u2014 are currently slated to last for a total of one year, President Biden has been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/white-house\/monthly-child-tax-credit-payments-start-hitting-bank-accounts-july-n1267535?cid=sm_npd_nn_fb_ma&amp;fbclid=IwAR3Nqx79gqJhWnhn_ftfx4qcyDPUep9a1hHouAaqBwYucaLzVjWAJN0KvEw\"><span>floating<\/span><\/a><span> the idea of extending the handout since at least May.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On September 10, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (D-MA) announced that lawmakers would attempt to codify the extension through 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe seek to help families better afford essentials with the continuation of the expanded Child Tax Credit,\u201d said Neal in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/waysandmeans.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/chairman-neal-announces-additional-day-markup-build-back-better-act\"><span>press release<\/span><\/a><span>. In addition to other policies in the \u201cBuild Back Better\u201d agenda, Neal believes that the Child Tax Credit will \u201cexpand opportunity for the American people and support our efforts to build a healthier, more prosperous future for the country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The proposal currently under consideration would continue the $250 and $300 checks, with phaseouts beginning for households with income above $150,000 and finishing with households earning over $400,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee are less optimistic; their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gop-waysandmeans.house.gov\/fact-check-gop-tax-reform-helped-american-workers\/\"><span>release<\/span><\/a><span> stated that \u201cDemocrats have turned the Child Tax Credit into Welfare Without Work, which if they make permanent will harm families, risk the loss of billions of taxpayer dollars in waste and fraud, and cost American jobs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Indeed, Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) \u2014 the Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee \u2014 told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-bidenomics-issues-every-american-should-know-about-kevin-brady-on-unemployment-taxes-and-inflation\"><span>The Daily Wire<\/span><\/a><span> last month that the federal government will dampen America\u2019s economic recovery with continued spending.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe time for emergency spending is over, and Washington cannot become the \u2018Olive Garden\u2019 of never-ending government checks, which is now becoming expected by too many Americans,\u201d he remarked. \u201cIf that\u2019s done, and President Biden\u2019s proposing that in the $3.5 trillion \u2014 and really $5 trillion \u2014 spending binge, my fear is that we will usher in a new era of government dependency. That\u2019s bad for everyone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Brady also recounted a visit with a group of restaurant owners in Maryland \u2014 one of whom said that one of his best employees was able to quit her job because of the Child Tax Credits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFor the first time, it is divorced from work. That\u2019s not a requirement for getting it, and so you\u2019re seeing this barrier begin to impact businesses starting last week,\u201d Brady said. \u201cI think the point here is that the federal government is sending a seemingly never-ending supply of checks, regardless of whether you work or not.
