Wade<\/i>&nbsp;in 1973, recognizing abortion as a constitutional right, it enabled me to do the job I was trained to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">He continued, \u201cFor the next 45 years \u2014 not including the two years I was away in the Air Force \u2014 I was a practicing OB\/GYN in Texas, conducting Pap smears, pelvic exams and pregnancy check-ups; delivering more than 10,000 babies; and providing abortion care at clinics I opened in Houston and San Antonio, and another in Oklahoma.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Braid explained it was \u201c1972 all over again\u201d for him after the new Texas law was passed, which led him to perform an abortion on a woman who was \u201cbeyond the state\u2019s new limit.\u201d He argued that he \u201cacted because [he] had a duty of care to this patient, as I do for all patients, and because she has a fundamental right to receive this care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Braid was also sure to include anecdotal pieces of information about his patients who have sought abortions, saying the majority of them are mothers, with most women falling between the ages of 18 and 30. He added that several times a month, a woman tells the abortion provider that she has been raped, and more often than not, doesn\u2019t report the crime to the police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI understand that by providing an abortion beyond the new legal limit, I am taking a personal risk, but it\u2019s something I believe in strongly. Represented by the Center for Reproductive Rights, my clinics are among the plaintiffs in an ongoing federal lawsuit to stop S.B. 8.,\u201d the doctor wrote, adding that he has daughters, granddaughters and nieces and believes abortion is \u201can essential part of health care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">John Seago, legislative director for Texas Right to Life, has<b>&nbsp;<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national\/texas-abortion-doctor-tests-restrictive-law\/2021\/09\/18\/f5b48862-18a0-11ec-9589-31ac3173c2e5_story.html\"><span class=\"s1\">said<\/span><\/a>, per The Washington Post, that the group \u201cis exploring all of our options to hold anyone accountable who breaks the (Texas) law.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis is obviously a stunt to move forward with other legal attacks on the law,\u201d he said about Braid\u2019s piece. \u201cThis was always something that we expected \u2014 that someone would essentially try to bait a lawsuit. So we\u2019re just moving into the next phase of Senate Bill 8 right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Chelsey Youman, the national director of public policy for Human Coalition, another pro-life organization, said that Braid is \u201cwillfully conducting illegal abortions right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cHe knows he\u2019s currently incurring liability and he may face repercussions for that .\u2009.\u2009. but for the most part that\u2019s a choice the larger abortion clinics have not made. They\u2019re saying they\u2019re going to comply. We should celebrate that lives are being saved in the interim,\u201d she said, reports The Post.<\/p>\n<p>As The Post reported, \u201cBraid\u2019s clinics are represented by the Center for Reproductive Rights, which brought a federal lawsuit against the Texas ban.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe stand ready to defend him against the vigilante lawsuits that S.B. 8 threatens to unleash against those providing or supporting access to constitutionally protected abortion care,\u201d said Nancy Northup, the group\u2019s CEO and president<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Biden administration\u2019s Justice Department has taken action to stop the new Texas law from taking effect, filing a lawsuit against the state of Texas and further <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/doj-files-for-emergency-order-halting-texas-heartbeat-abortion-law\"><span class=\"s1\">pressing<\/span><\/a> a federal judge to put out an order to halt the law last week.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
