Several hundred demonstrators gathered outside of the nation\u2019s Capitol to support those jailed for taking part in the Jan. 6 protest.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the crowd Saturday, organizer of the event Matt Braynard said it was about the many protesters who have not been charged with violence, haven\u2019t been accused of assaulting a police officer or destroying property and the \u201cdisparate treatment they\u2019ve received.\u201d He added \u201cthis is all about equal treatment under the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/eight-months-jan-6-attack-capitol\">600 people<\/a> have been arrested in the months following the protest and more than 50 have pleaded guilty to a variety of federal charges. Supporters showed frustration towards the treatment of the \u201cpolitical prisoners,\u201d saying it\u2019s inhumane and political prosecution.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It\u2019s banana republic regimes that hold political prisoners without due process. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/JusticeforJ6?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#JusticeforJ6<\/a> \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZtuBoPUSaY\">pic.twitter.com\/ZtuBoPUSaY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Joe Kent for WA-3 (@joekent16jan19) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/joekent16jan19\/status\/1439302000894566402?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 18, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Supporters were heavily outnumbered by law enforcement as Capitol Police brought hundreds of officers into Washington, D.C. in order to prevent any possible violence. However, demonstrators emphasized keeping the peace and condemned the violence seen on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe overall message is that we condemn violence. That\u2019s not America. We need to make sure that we do a peaceful voice to be heard. Not a protest that is in violence. We condemn that.
