Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s (NY) \u201cTax The Rich\u201d dress that AOC wore to the recent Met Gala, reportedly owes a significant amount in back taxes.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Post reported that the 37-year-old was a \u201cnotorious tax deadbeat with unpaid debts dogging her in multiple states,\u201d most of which center around a company she created in 2011, Cultural Brokerage Agency, which serves as the parent company to her fashion company.<\/p>\n<p>The Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/09\/18\/aocs-tax-the-rich-dress-designer-aurora-james-is-a-tax-deadbeat\/\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11.312101910828\">\n<p><em>The company racked up&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/appext20.dos.ny.gov\/stwarrants_public\/stw_warrants?p_name=CULTURAL+BROKERAGE+AGENCY+LLC&amp;p_lapsed=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">three open tax warrants<\/a> in New York state for failing to withhold income taxes from employees\u2019 paychecks totaling $14,798, the state Department of Taxation and Finance told The Post. The debts \u2014&nbsp;which were incurred before the pandemic \u2014 stem from 2018 and 2019. The company has been hit with 15 warrants in total since 2015. The company got into a deeper hole with the feds. Between April 2018 and April 2019, the Internal Revenue Service placed six&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/a836-acris.nyc.gov\/DS\/DocumentSearch\/DocumentImageView?doc_id=2018042800004036\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal liens<\/a>&nbsp;on Cultural Brokerage Agency totaling $103,220. The liens specifically cite the company\u2019s failure to remit employee payroll taxes.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Post reports that James\u2019 company has received $41,666 in pandemic relief aid; her company owes a $62,722 in matters related to workers\u2019 compensation; and her company has allegedly relied heavily on \u201clegions of unpaid interns working full-time jobs.\u201d The report added that James bought a $1.6 million property in California last year and that it is already listed as \u201cdelinquent\u201d by L.A. County, which told the newspaper that she owes more than $2,500 in property taxes.<\/p>\n<p>AOC received instant mockery and criticism over her decision to attend the expensive elitist event, with critics branding her a \u201cfraud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndividual tickets are reportedly priced at $30,000 a piece, a far cry from when [Vogue editor-in-chief Anna] Wintour first took over the running of the event in 1995 when they were just $1,000,\u201d Newsweek&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/met-gala-ticket-cost-money-raised-1627921\">reported<\/a>. \u201cThen there are the tables, typically bought by brands and fashion houses. These reportedly start at $275,000.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the most notable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/aoc-mocked-criticized-after-wearing-tax-the-rich-dress-to-elitist-met-gala-branded-a-fraud\">responses<\/a> included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ej Dickson<\/strong>, senior writer at Rolling Stone,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/yCSZz\">tweeted<\/a>: \u201cAm I the only one who thinks this is really f***ing stupid[?] 1) The dress is ugly, 2) She\u2019s at a $35k per person event and this isn\u2019t nearly the own she thinks it is. 3) The dress is ugly. I mean I love her but come on this is so dumb. Peak girl boss s**t.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Glenn Greenwald<\/strong>, a progressive blogger,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ggreenwald\/status\/1437582324976300032\">tweeted<\/a>: \u201cLots of people commenting snidely on the lack of masks and social distancing in this opulent indoor event in the middle of a pandemic but \u2014 as was true of Obama\u2019s indoor bash \u2014 COVID wasn\u2019t invited to the #MetGala and these are the sophisticated people who aren\u2019t in danger.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX)<\/strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DanCrenshawTX\/status\/1437586722800418822\">tweeted<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m not even mad at the lack of self awareness or hypocrisy anymore. At this point it\u2019s just hilarious.
