She has no involvement in the FDA\u2019s approval process for COVID-19 vaccines.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Grady has recently become a <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/09\/06\/fact-check-anthony-fauci-christine-grady-fda-nih-approving-covid-vaccines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">popular target<\/a> for online misinformation. Fauci, her husband and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niaid.nih.gov\/about\/director\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">director<\/a> of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has similarly been the subject of <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/07\/23\/fact-check-anthony-fauci-write-viral-essay-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">false<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/05\/20\/fact-check-anthony-fauci-clinton-foundation-board-20-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">claims<\/a> during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>This particular post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/john.lawrence.7370\/posts\/10221712658938281\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">alleges<\/a> Grady is the \u201cnew FDA acting head\u201d while also attempting to link her to the approval process for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. The FDA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/news-events\/press-announcements\/fda-approves-first-covid-19-vaccine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">approved<\/a> the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, marketed as Comirnaty, for use among people ages 16 and older in August.<\/p>\n<p>Grady is not the acting head of the FDA. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/about-fda\/fda-organization\/fda-leadership-profiles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">agency\u2019s website<\/a> lists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/about-fda\/fda-organization\/janet-woodcock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Janet Woodcock<\/a> as the FDA\u2019s acting commissioner. She was named to the position on Jan. 20, the day the previous FDA commissioner, Dr. Stephen Hahn, resigned, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/01\/20\/health\/covid-fda-hahn-woodcock.html?smtyp=cur&amp;smid=tw-nytimes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>. President Joe Biden\u2019s administration does not appear to have announced a nominee for the permanent role as of press time.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA Office of Media Affairs confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact that Grady is not an FDA employee. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/05\/03\/fact-check-fda-not-authorize-approve-covid-19-vaccine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Will The FDA Not Authorize Or Approve Any COVID-19 Vaccine?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Grady serves as the <a href=\"https:\/\/clinicalcenter.nih.gov\/meet-our-doctors\/cgrady.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">chief of Bioethics<\/a> at the NIH Clinical Center.
