There are no reports from major media outlets of the Taliban banning sanitary napkins.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In early September, the Taliban announced it had formed an interim government, which comprised of only men, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/taliban-takeover-afghanistan-what-to-know-1a74c9cd866866f196c478aba21b60b6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press<\/a> reported. Since taking control of Afghanistan, the militant group has instituted restrictions on women, including requiring gender segregation and Islamic dress codes in universities, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/asia-pacific\/20210911-sports-ban-segregated-education-afghanistan-women-worried-by-first-taliban-measures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">France 24<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/anand.gupta.357622\/posts\/10159668705128619\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ramuiyer\/status\/1437606647917015048\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter users<\/a> have recently been sharing an image allegedly showing a CNN article titled \u201cTaliban bans sanitory (<em>sic<\/em>) napkins in Afghanistan, says it\u2019s not a Sharia complaint (<em>sic<\/em>) practice,\u201d despite there being no evidence the network ever published the story.<\/p>\n<p>A search of CNN\u2019s website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/search?size=10&amp;q=taliban%20sanitory%20napkins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">didn\u2019t yield<\/a> any matches for the supposed article about the Taliban and menstrual products circulating online. Nor has a story with that headline been posted on CNN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page\/5550296508\/search\/?q=taliban%20sanitary%20napkins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">verified<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page\/18793419640\/search\/?q=taliban%20napkins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=taliban%20napkins%20(from%3ACNN%20OR%20from%3Acnnbrk%20OR%20from%3Acnni%20OR%20from%3ACNNPolitics)&amp;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accounts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, there are clear signs that the image is fabricated, such as the spelling errors in the headline and the CNN logo being flipped. Genuine articles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/09\/16\/europe\/russia-putin-coronavirus-intl\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">published<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/09\/16\/africa\/france-killed-isis-al-sahrawi-intl-hnk\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/09\/16\/europe\/france-healthcare-workers-vaccination-suspended-intl\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN\u2019s website<\/a> include bylines and time stamps showing when they were published or updated, both of which the one in the Facebook post lacks.<\/p>\n<p>CNN spokesperson Bridget Leininger confirmed to Check Your Fact in an email that the article is fake. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/10\/19\/fact-check-cnn-chyron-viruses-nigerians-coronavirus-sars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did CNN Air This Chyron About \u2018Two Deadly Viruses\u2019 Killing Nigerians?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact found no reports from national news outlets, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/search?searchtext=taliban%20sanitary%20napkins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ABC News<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/search\/?q=taliban+sanitary+products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NBC News<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/search?query=taliban%20sanitary%20napkins&amp;mod=searchresults_viewallresults\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a>, saying the Taliban banned the use of sanitary napkins in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>Social media users have shared fake CNN articles in the past. For example, Check Your Fact in July&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/07\/09\/fact-check-cnn-article-joe-biden-troops-haiti-assassination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">debunked<\/a> a claim that CNN reported President Joe Biden was sending troops to Haiti after the assassination of the Haitian president.
