On Wednesday, Department Spokesman John Kirby said Milley\u2019s talks with Beijing last October and this past January were not inappropriate.<\/p>\n<p>Kirby\u2019s comments came despite Bob Woodward revealing Milley promised Beijing he would not follow President Trump\u2019s orders in case he authorized a military strike on China. Milley also allegedly vowed to notify China if such a decision were made by Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not speaking to the validity of things that are in the book, but it is completely appropriate for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as the senior military adviser to both the secretary and the president, to want to see those protocols reviewed on whatever frequent basis that that he wants to do that,\u201d Kirby said. \u201cHe is basically the chief of defense for the United States.
