U.S. Soccer will not agree to any collective bargaining agreement that does not take the important step of equalizing FIFA World Cup prize money.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>U.S. Soccer believes that the best way to achieve these important goals is by the women\u2019s and men\u2019s Players Associations coming together to negotiate one contract.&nbsp;However, if the Players Associations choose to continue to negotiate separately as they have to date, U.S. Soccer will invite&nbsp;the USWNTPA to sit in on the negotiations with the USNSTPA and vice versa, in the interest of full transparency.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>U.S. Soccer remains eager, ready and willing to meet with both Players Associations and the players as soon as possible and as often as needed, either separately or together, to get a deal done and focus on the future of soccer.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe unions for the men\u2019s and women\u2019s team are currently separate and have no obligation to bargain jointly or to agree to similar terms. The men\u2019s contract expired in December 2018 while the women\u2019s runs through until December this year,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sport\/football\/article-9992715\/US-Soccer-Federation-offer-identical-contracts-mens-womens-national-teams.html\">The Daily Mail<\/a> noted.<\/p>\n<p>As recently as July, The Daily Wire\u2019s Ashe Show <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/u-s-womens-soccer-team-appeals-pay-discrimination-ruling-that-found-they-rejected-same-pay-structure-as-mens-team\/\">noted<\/a> that the U.S. women\u2019s national soccer team admitted that they were paid the same if not more than the U.S. men\u2019s national team but still argued they didn\u2019t receive equal pay because they had \u201cto work more than a man and be much more successful\u201d to receive \u201cabout the same pay.\u201d She continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"25.454240134341\">\n<p><em>The Hill&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/news\/564636-us-womens-national-soccer-team-players-appeal-equal-pay-decision?rl=1\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;that the women\u2019s team has appealed the May 2020 decision of Judge Gary Klausner, who dismissed the team\u2019s claims that they were discriminated against because of their gender on the issue of pay. As The Daily Wire&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/u-s-womens-soccer-team-wants-to-appeal-pay-discrimination-ruling-that-determined-they-rejected-equal-pay\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;at the time, Klausner noted that the women\u2019s team&nbsp;rejected&nbsp;the same pay structure that the men\u2019s team uses.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe WNT was willing to forgo higher bonuses for benefits, such as greater base compensation and the guarantee of a higher number of contracted players,\u201d Klausner wrote in his ruling. \u201cAccordingly, plaintiffs cannot now retroactively deem their CBA (collective bargaining agreement) worse than the MNT (men\u2019s national team) CBA by reference to what they would have made had they been paid under the MNT\u2019s pay-to-play terms structure when they themselves rejected such a structure.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The women\u2019s team previously&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/u-s-womens-soccer-players-refused-the-same-pay-structure-as-men-now-theyre-claiming-sexism-led-to-difference\">attempted<\/a>&nbsp;to get the pay discrimination claim reinstated by appealing to the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Now, they\u2019ve filed their direct appeal of Klausner\u2019s ruling, claiming it was \u201cbased on a flawed analysis of the team\u2019s compensation, despite the abundant evidence of unequal pay.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Schow <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/heres-why-womens-soccer-team-isnt-paid-much-mens-ashe-schow\/\">pointed out<\/a> in June 2019:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"15.076479076479\">\n<p><em>The main reason women soccer players aren\u2019t paid as much as men is due to the fact that there is simply less interest from viewers. The lower interest results in less money brought in from advertisers and revenue to the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When women\u2019s soccer came to Fox Sports, it averaged about&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/equalizersoccer.com\/2013\/07\/18\/fox-soccer-makes-encouraging-nwsl-debut-nwsl-neilsen-ratings\/\">63,000 viewers<\/a>, while the men\u2019s team regularly brings in 240,000 viewers per game at ESPN. This changes when the women\u2019s team is in the World Cup. Views at that time rival that of the men\u2019s team \u2014 but just for that short period.
