The 41-year-old biological female uses the pronouns \u201che\u201d and \u201cthey\u201d and is married to a wife, Laurel. Elizabeth Eaton, led the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour bishop sleeps on the streets with those who have no homes. Your bishop feeds those who are hungry,\u201d Eaton said. \u201cThis bishop walks not only with families in trauma, but when these first responders respond to a traumatic incident, and these people need to stay with the bodies of those who died, this chaplain, your bishop, stands with and prays with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More details from The Chronicle:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"15\">\n<p><em>Rohrer\u2019s impact has spread beyond San Francisco.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Pastor Noah Hepler came from Philadelphia to celebrate. He appeared on the show \u201cQueer Eye,\u201d on which Rohrer visited him and talked him through his struggles with being a gay pastor.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019m almost at a loss for words,\u201d Hepler said about the significance of the day. \u201cWe all grew up in a time when the church was saying no, and now we have bishops who are LGBTQ. It\u2019s an amazing time to be in the church.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/first-transgender-bishop-elected-in-mainline-protestant-denomination-celebrates-dismantling-council-of-nicaea-standards\">previously reported<\/a> that Rohrer was elected to serve as bishop in May with 209 votes during an online synod assembly, narrowly defeating the Rev. Jeff R. Johnson of Berkeley, California, who received 207 votes.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Rohrer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc10.com\/article\/news\/local\/sacramento\/first-transgender-bishop-evangelical-lutheran-church\/103-0a75206d-fd11-4837-bb6d-fcb89258f8bc\">told<\/a> ABC 10 News the election was \u201cbigger than just one person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are many people who have been hurt by churches, and as someone who wears the same uniform, I would like to say \u2018I\u2019m sorry\u2019 if you have been hurt by people of faith,\u201d said Rohrer. \u201cAnd I also want to say, \u2018Welcome.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rohrer was barred from serving in the church\u2019s leadership positions in the mid-2000s due to what Rohrer\u2019s bio <a href=\"https:\/\/sfgrace.blogspot.com\/p\/pastor_2.html\">described<\/a> as \u201cpolicies against gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer individuals.\u201d The church had only allowed gay and lesbian people into the ordained ministry if they remained celibate. In 2009, however, the church reversed course and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elca.org\/News-and-Events\/6587\">voted<\/a> to open the ministry to gay and lesbian people living in committed relationships.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/world-nation\/story\/2021-09-13\/evangelical-lutheran-church-first-out-transgender-bishop\">reported<\/a>, \u201cRohrer became one of seven LGBTQ pastors accepted by the progressive Evangelical Lutheran church in 2010 after it allowed ordination of pastors in same-sex relationships.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
