Tom Cotton is working with both Democrats and Republicans in developing complementary legislation to several of the antitrust bills the House Judiciary Committee advanced in June, a spokesman for Sen. Cotton told the Daily Caller News Foundation, including the Platform Competition and Opportunity Act.<\/p>\n<p>The House\u2019s version of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/3826\/text?r=5&amp;s=1\">act<\/a>, one of a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/24\/bills-combatting-big-techs-monopolistic-practices-closer-law-bipartisan\/\">antitrust bills<\/a> introduced by bipartisan members of the House Judiciary Committee, sought to prevent major tech platforms from consolidating their market share by acquiring smaller competitors. Under the law, the burden of proof would be on big tech companies to prove their mergers are lawful.<\/p>\n<p>Cotton has not yet agreed to sponsor any of the bills, a spokesman for the Senator said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/15\/amazon-antitrust-big-tech-department-of-justice-facebook-federal-trade-commission-google\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: How Can Antitrust Lawsuits Against Big Tech Succeed?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sen. Hawley told the DCNF. \u201cFaithful antitrust enforcement is the lifeblood of a healthy free-market economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hawley introduced two other antitrust bills aimed at Big Tech earlier this year, one of which <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/12\/hawley-trust-busting-big-tech-antitrust-legislation\/\">took aim<\/a>&nbsp;at tech companies privileging their own search results, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawley.senate.gov\/senator-hawley-introduces-bust-big-tech-act\">another<\/a>&nbsp;sought to ban digital marketplaces from promoting their own products on their sites.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Chuck Grassley is also working on one of the bills, the Washington Examiner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/top-republican-senator-in-talks-with-democrats-on-anti-big-tech-antitrust-bill\">reported<\/a>, though he has not yet agreed to sponsor any legislation. Grassley is working with Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar on the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Grassley and Klobuchar previously together worked on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.klobuchar.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/2021\/6\/klobuchar-grassley-bill-to-provide-antitrust-enforcers-additional-resources-passes-senate\">Merger Filing Fee Modernization Act<\/a>, which would raise filing fees on mergers and acquisitions to fund the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice\u2019s antitrust division.<\/p>\n<p>The House Judiciary Committee\u2019s bills also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/heres-how-new-antitrust-legislation-could-affect-big-tech-and-you\/\">include<\/a> the ACCESS Act, which requires platforms to allow users to easily transport their data, and the American Innovation and Choice Online Act, which prohibits platforms from favoring their own services.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
