Ron DeSantis, accusing him of \u201cbullying\u201d teachers and school boards.<\/p>\n<p>Vaccination requirements for teachers are \u201coverwhelmingly supported by educators and their unions and all school officials trying to do the right thing by our children,\u201d Biden claimed during his Thursday speech outlining his new COVID-19 recovery plan.<\/p>\n<p>However, he said, \u201celected officials and states \u2026 are undermining you and these lifesaving actions. Right now, local school officials are trying to keep children safe in a pandemic, while their governor picks a fight with them, and even threatens their salaries or their jobs. Talk about bullying in schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/30\/ron-desantis-executive-order-children-mask-schools\/\">issued<\/a> an executive order on July 30 preventing local school boards from instituting mask mandates, arguing that \u201cthe parent is best to evaluate the effect that this will have on their children.\u201d His office later <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/09\/desantis-florida-schools-salaries-mask-mandates-covid-19\/\">announced<\/a> that he could withhold salaries from superintendents or school board members who attempt to issue mandates.<\/p>\n<p>A state judge later <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/27\/ron-desantis-judge-school-mask-mandates-florida\/\">ruled<\/a> that DeSantis could not enforce the ban on mask mandates, and that he could not <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/08\/ron-desantis-court-school-mask-mandate-ruling\/\">dock<\/a> the salaries of officials who try to enforce them while litigation is ongoing. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/18\/two-florida-school-districts-face-funding-cuts-defiance-desantis-mask-mandate-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Two Florida School Districts Face Funding Cuts For Defiance Of DeSantis\u2019 Mask Mandate)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese governors won\u2019t help defeat the pandemic,\u201d Biden said. \u201cI\u2019ll use my powers, as president, to get them out of the way. The Department of Education is already begun to take legal action against states undermining protections that local school officials have ordered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Education\u2019s Office of Civil Rights has already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/education\/2021\/08\/30\/us-education-department-investigating-iowa-schools-mask-mandate-ban-kim-reynolds\/5653030001\/\">announced<\/a> investigations of Iowa, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Utah for their bans on mask mandates. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona suggested that the bans violate the rights of students with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department has heard from parents from across the country \u2014 particularly parents of students with disabilities and with underlying medical conditions \u2014 about how state bans on universal indoor masking are putting their children at risk and preventing them from accessing in-person learning equally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The American Civil Liberties Union <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/24\/aclu-south-carolina-lawsuit-mask-mandate-school\/\">filed<\/a> a lawsuit in August arguing that South Carolina\u2019s ban violates the Americans with Disabilities Act.<\/p>\n<p>Biden also promised to \u201c100 percent\u201d restore the pay of education officials who have their salaries cut over mask mandate rules.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI promise you, I will have your back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Joe Biden took a thinly-veiled jab at Republican Florida Gov.
