It does not show real turtles running.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The video shows a group of large turtles that appear to be speedily running in circles along the perimeter of a room. \u201cI didn\u2019t know turtles could go this fast,\u201d reads the Facebook post\u2019s caption. The video has also been widely shared on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RexChapman\/status\/1433810492561231873\">Twitter<\/a> with similar comments.<\/p>\n<p>The turtles in the video, however, are not real. Through a reverse image search of key frames, Check Your Fact discovered the same video was shared in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/trending-news\/story\/artist-s-brilliant-animation-video-of-tortoises-running-around-leaves-netizens-stunned-viral-1849395-2021-09-05\">India Today<\/a> article that explained it was created by Vernon James Manlapaz, an \u201caugmented-reality specialist.\u201d Manlapaz is known for creating short, animated videos using CGI, according to profiles of his work in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisiscolossal.com\/2019\/04\/videos-by-vernon-james-manlapaz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colossal<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/gv3ve3\/cgi-wizard-brings-real-magic-to-harry-potter-land\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe content I make is always about bringing out that childlike wonder we all have,\u201d Manlapaz told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisiscolossal.com\/2019\/04\/videos-by-vernon-james-manlapaz\/\">Colossal<\/a> in 2019. \u201cThe goal has always been to bring joy and happiness to everyone who comes across my work. That even that 10 seconds they spend watching the content brings joy to them even for a couple of moments to their life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manlapaz originally shared the video in an Aug. 28 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CTH76-OnMLX\/\">Instagram<\/a> post. His verified Instagram <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/vernbestintheworld\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">account<\/a> is filled with similar videos of other animals doing seemingly impossible things, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CRJw28ZHDkL\/\">fish<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BYpPWmklsu2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stingrays<\/a> flying through the air. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/06\/24\/fact-check-jonathan-tortoise-oldest-land-animal-alive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Image Show The Tortoise That Is The \u2018Oldest Known Land Animal Alive Today\u2019?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe turtle video was created with animation and visual effects composited on a video footage,\u201d Manlapaz confirmed Check Your Fact via email.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A video shared on Facebook purportedly shows a group of turtles speedily running in circles.Verdict: False The video was created through the use of computer-generated imagery (CGI).
