Director General Tedros Ghebreyesus made the comment on Wednesday, saying boosters should wait until every country has had a chance to vaccinate at least 40 percent of its population.<\/p>\n<p>He acknowledged third doses may be necessary for at risk populations, such as those who are immunocompromised. However, for now he said the WHO doesn\u2019t want to see widespread use of boosters for healthy vaccinated people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been a lot of talk about vaccine equity, but too little action. High-income countries have promised to donate more than a billion doses, but less than 15 percent of those doses have materialized,\u201d said Ghebreyesus.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">90% of high-income countries have reached the 10% <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COVID19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#COVID19<\/a> vaccination target; 70%+ have reached the 40% target. Not 1 low-income country has reached either target.
