I think we can work something out. And I look forward to speaking with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Biden\u2019s attitude regarding Manchin\u2019s stance is perhaps not as well-founded as he may have hoped. According to Axios, the senator told the administration and leaders in Congress that he is taking issue with Biden\u2019s spending plan of $3.5 trillion.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Axios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/scoop-manchin-backs-as-little-as-1-trillion-of-bidens-35-trillion-plan-91d079e0-84a7-4f8f-94d4-212827a61339.html\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) has privately warned the White House and congressional leaders that he has specific policy concerns with President Biden\u2019s $3.5 trillion social spending dream \u2014 and he\u2019ll support as little as $1 trillion of it.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>At most, he\u2019s open to supporting $1.5 trillion, sources familiar with the discussions say.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">The Senate passed the bipartisan infrastructure package at $1.2 trillion.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-pushes-congress-to-pass-spending-plans-after-manchin-opposes-democrats-massive-3-5t-bill\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> last week, Manchin wrote an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal. He explained his stance on the Democratic budget reconciliation plan and called on members to pause the efforts while the country struggles with inflation.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In his op-ed, Manchin&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/manchin-pelosi-biden-3-5-trillion-reconciliation-government-spending-debt-deficit-inflation-11630605657\"><span class=\"s1\">stated<\/span><\/a>, \u201cI, for one, won\u2019t support a $3.5 trillion bill, or anywhere near that level of additional spending, without greater clarity about why Congress chooses to ignore the serious effects inflation and debt have on existing government programs.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis is even more important now as the Social Security and Medicare Trustees have&nbsp;sounded the alarm&nbsp;that these life-saving programs will be insolvent and benefits could start to be reduced as soon as 2026 for Medicare and 2033, a year earlier than previously projected, for Social Security,\u201d he added. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cInstead of rushing to spend trillions on new government programs and additional stimulus funding, Congress should hit a strategic pause on the budget-reconciliation legislation. A pause is warranted because it will provide more clarity on the trajectory of the pandemic, and it will allow us to determine whether inflation is transitory or not,\u201d Manchin noted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Senate is split down the middle, so Biden would need a vote from Manchin in order to get his massive spending bill through \u2013 which has no Republican support. Biden appeared to try to push Manchin in his direction over the past week.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">After Manchin\u2019s op-ed was published, Biden appeared to respond to Manchin\u2019s claims that he would not support a massive Democratic spending plan.
