But he denies that \u201cthe \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/blog\/the-avenue\/2018\/03\/14\/the-us-will-become-minority-white-in-2045-census-projects\/\">Browning of America\u2019<\/a>&nbsp;will lead to the erosion of [w]hite supremacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>White supremacy, imposed by white supremacy\u2019s victims<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Blake argues that \u201cwhite supremacy\u201d and \u201csystemic racism\u201d are shape-shifting realities so deeply engrafted into the fabric of the United States that their \u201cmost powerful forms\u201d can be practiced and perpetuated by people of virtually any ethnicity.<\/p>\n<p>True, the CNN writer admits, it will be harder to detect white supremacy when it\u2019s imposed by people who are not traditionally thought of as white \u2014 which only makes this non-white variant of white racism more \u201cdangerous\u201d and more evil:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"14\">\n<p><em>Don\u2019t ever underestimate [w]hite supremacy\u2019s ability to adapt.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The assumption that more racial diversity equals more racial equality is a dangerous myth. Racial diversity can function as a cloaking device, concealing the most powerful forms of [w]hite supremacy while giving the appearance of racial progress.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Racism will likely be just as entrenched in a browner America as it is now. It will still be [w]hite supremacy, with a tan.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Blake notes, correctly, that many ethnicities \u2014 including Irish, Italians, Jews, and Eastern Europeans \u2014 were not originally considered \u201cwhite,\u201d as compared to White Anglo-Saxon Protestants. But they eventually came to be considered \u201cwhite.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhiteness isn\u2019t a fixed identity,\u201d he writes; \u201cit\u2019s like taffy &nbsp;\u2014 it expands to accommodate new members if they have the right&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/inspired-life\/wp\/2017\/11\/20\/my-mother-spent-her-life-passing-as-white-discovering-her-secret-changed-my-view-of-race-and-myself\/\">look<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whitewashing Communist Cuba\u2019s anti-black racism<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Blake tips his hand when he says rectifying the allegedly endemic racism of <a href=\"http:\/\/therightswriter.com\/2008\/10\/socialism-we-can-believe-in\/\">the U.S. Constitution<\/a> \u201crequires radical change\u201d including \u201ca more equitable sharing of power and resources\u201d \u2014 that is, the racial redistribution of wealth.<\/p>\n<p>Blake loses any lingering shred of credibility when he tries to portray Communist Cuba\u2019s racism as a product of the free enterprise system. \u201cCuba also has a complex history with race. Racism is often described as a relic of capitalism in the communist country,\u201d he writes.<\/p>\n<p>Yet no less a Cuban Marxist than Ch\u00e9 Guevara once <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2013\/apr\/9\/beyonce-jay-z-and-the-racists\/\">said<\/a>, \u201cThe Negro is indolent and lazy, and spends his money on frivolities, whereas the European is forward-looking, organized and intelligent.\u201d Cuban expatriate Alejandro de la Fuente <a href=\"https:\/\/nacla.org\/article\/resurgence-racism-cuba\">wrote<\/a> that it is a widespread view in the Communist era that \u201cAfro-Cubans are unattractive, dirty, prone to criminal activities, inefficient or lack proper manners and education.\u201d Cuban expert Humberto Fontova has said the Castro regime\u2019s racism has been perpetuated from Guevara\u2019s day until now, when nearly eight of every 10 prisoners in Cuba\u2019s highly politicized prisons is black, although blacks make up only <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2020\/09\/09\/cuba-government-blm-police-racism-black-lives-needs-to-look-within-as-it-denounces-us\/\">9%<\/a> of the population. So much for socialism solving the evil of racism.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Multiracism whiteness\u2019: a contradiction or a part of Critical Race Theory?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many people may be reassured that the number of people who identify as members of more than one \u201crace\u201d rose by 276% between 2010 and 2020, but not CNN. Blake insists, \u201cMultiracial people will not save America.\u201d He warns that people of multiple racial backgrounds \u2014 especially Hispanics \u2014 could actually \u201cshield [w]hite supremacy\u201d by <em>not <\/em>identifying exclusively as members of a minority group.<\/p>\n<p>Yet here, CNN is at its most hypocritical. Didn\u2019t the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/erik-wemple\/post\/why-did-new-york-times-call-george-zimmerman-white-hispanic\/2012\/03\/28\/gIQAW6fngS_blog.html\">legacy media<\/a> \u2014 including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2012\/03\/26\/justice\/florida-teen-shooting\/index.html\">CNN<\/a> \u2014 label <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trayvon-martin-review-hank-berrien\">George Zimmerman<\/a> a \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/03\/22\/us\/police-chief-draws-fire-in-trayvon-martin-shooting.html\">white Hispanic<\/a>\u201d during his trial for the death of Trayvon Martin (in which he was exonerated)? Did he make this identity himself \u2014 or did the media impose this identity on an Hispanic man, because it suited their own racial narrative?<\/p>\n<p>Blake is correct that racial identity is often a construct \u2014 but it is most so on the intersectional, identity politics-driven Left. Critical Race Theory holds that \u201cwhiteness\u201d is a system, not a race, and anyone who does not actively promote the redistribution of wealth is secretly betraying his racial interests by promoting \u201cpresent discrimination.\u201d Thus, black conservatives are not, in John McWhorter\u2019s phrase, \u201cauthentically black\u201d; they are \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QVLj-zARCv8\">Uncle Toms<\/a>.\u201d (For more, see our recent, in-depth explainer, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/what-is-critical-race-theory-breaking-down-the-ideology-thats-hitting-schools-across-the-country\">What is Critical Race Theory?<\/a>\u201d) That explains how democratic socialist Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) could <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/453007-pressley-democrats-need-any-more-black-voices-that-dont-want-to-be-a-black\">tell<\/a> the 2019 Netroots Nation conference, \u201cWe don\u2019t need any more brown faces that don\u2019t want to be a brown voice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The legacy media continue to apply an ideological yardstick to conservative minorities\u2019 ethnic identities, regardless of their personal autonomy and self-identification. After exit polls showed that President Donald Trump increased his share of the Hispanic vote by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/walsh-trump-massively-exceeded-expectations-with-minority-voters-heres-how-he-did-it\">3%<\/a> in 2020, New York University professor Cristina Beltr\u00e1n <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2021\/01\/15\/understand-trumps-support-we-must-think-terms-multiracial-whiteness\/\">explained<\/a> in The Washington Post that Latinos had become part of the new, \u201cmultiracial Whiteness.\u201d A week later, Beltr\u00e1n <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/01\/24\/960060957\/understanding-multiracial-whiteness-and-trump-supporters\">expounded<\/a> on her theory of \u201cmultiracial whiteness\u201d on NPR (at your expense).<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, in June, the Los Angeles Times<em>&nbsp;<\/em>called conservative talk show host Larry Elder \u201cthe black face of white supremacy\u201d in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-08-20\/recall-candidate-larry-elder-is-a-threat-to-black-californians\">op-ed<\/a> by columnist Erika D. Smith.
