Garland said.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong> \u201cWe will not tolerate violence against those seeking to obtain or provide reproductive health services, physical obstruction or property damage in violation of the FACE Act.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The United States Justice Department announced Monday that it will \u201cprovide support from federal law enforcement\u201d to any Texas abortion clinic facing an \u201cattack,\u201d suggesting that Texas\u2019 new law may result in violence against women and clinics.<\/p>\n<p>Late Wednesday night, the Supreme Court&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/20pdf\/21a24_8759.pdf#page=7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/20pdf\/21a24_8759.pdf%23page%3D7&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1630972738417000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGRbNifnz0N4EuBWREFYc9PVRCwQQ\">ruled 5-4<\/a> to deny abortion providers\u2019 requests to block Texas\u2019 new law banning abortion after 6 weeks. President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/02\/joe-biden-supreme-court-abortion-ruling-rule-of-law\/\">said<\/a> the court\u2019s decision \u201cinsults the rule of law\u201d and directed White House officials to launch a \u201cwhole-of-government effort to respond to this decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General Merrick B. Garland <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/statement-attorney-general-merrick-b-garland-regarding-texas-sb8-0\">issued a statement Monday<\/a> assuring women seeking abortions that the Justice Department will provide them assistance. (Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe FACE Act prohibits the use or threat of force and physical obstruction that injures, intimidates, or interferes with a person seeking to obtain or provide reproductive health services,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt also prohibits intentional property damage of a facility providing reproductive health services. The department has consistently obtained criminal and civil remedies for violations of the FACE Act since it was signed into law in 1994, and it will continue to do so now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When an abortion clinics is \u201cunder attack,\u201d Garland said, the Justice Department will \u201cprovide support from federal law enforcement.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/02\/jen-psaki-dismisses-male-reporters-question-on-catholicism-and-abortion-i-know-you-have-never-faced-those-choices-joe-biden\/\">(RELATED: Psaki Dismisses Male Reporter\u2019s Abortion Question On Biden\u2019s Catholicism: \u2018I Know You\u2019ve Never Faced Those Choices\u2019)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have reached out to U.S. Attorneys\u2019 Offices and FBI field offices in Texas and across the country to discuss our enforcement authorities,\u201d he said.&nbsp;\u201cWe will not tolerate violence against those seeking to obtain or provide reproductive health services, physical obstruction or property damage in violation of the FACE Act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new Texas <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/23\/attorney-lawsuit-texas-abortion-law\/\">law<\/a>&nbsp;has particularly angered abortion proponents as it allows \u201cany person\u201d to sue doctors, abortion clinics, or anyone who \u201cknowingly engages in conduct that aids or abets the performance or inducement of an abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those who sue over an abortion may be awarded $10,000 \u201cfor each abortion\u201d the defendant performed, induced, aided, or abetted in violation of the law.&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/02\/joe-biden-supreme-court-abortion-ruling-rule-of-law\/\">(RELATED: Biden: Supreme Court Abortion Ruling \u2018Insults The Rule Of Law\u2019)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Republican Texas state Sen. Brian Hughes, one of the original drafters and sponsors of the legislation, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/03\/texas-state-senator-abortion-supreme-court-heartbeat-act\/\">explained to the Daily Caller News Foundation Friday<\/a> that the law requires a doctor to check for a fetal heartbeat before an abortion can be performed, and if a heartbeat can be detected, the abortion cannot go forward.<\/p>\n<p>For someone to be liable under the law, he continued, such as a nurse or a friend who drove a woman to get an abortion, that person would have to know that the mother intended to abort a baby that had a heartbeat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe intent requirement is pretty specific as far as that goes,\u201d Hughes said.<\/p>\n<p>If a doctor performs an abortion on a baby that has a heartbeat, the law is triggered, Hughes said, and anyone with evidence can bring a claim against the doctor.&nbsp;The most likely source would be an abortion clinic worker, a family member, or friend, or the mother herself, if she was coerced into the abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
