Potter shot the 20-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/12\/minnesota-gop-daunte-wright-tim-waltz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wright<\/a> in April during a traffic stop.<\/p>\n<p>In his announcement of the added charge, Ellison claimed the decision \u201cconstitutes the entirety of the Attorney General\u2019s Office\u2019s public comment,\u201d according to Fox News. Ellison and state prosecutors took over the case from the Washington County attorney back in May and subsequently conducted its own investigation, which resulted in the additional charge, Fox News reported.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"11.714285714286\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The ex-Minnesota police officer who fatally shot <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/DaunteWright?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#DaunteWright<\/a> has been charged with first-degree manslaughter, the state\u2019s AG announced.<\/p>\n<p>Kim Potter shot Wright during a traffic stop, claiming she meant to use her Taser. She also faces a prior second-degree manslaughter charge. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JfKTNQFRDV\">pic.twitter.com\/JfKTNQFRDV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 AJ+ (@ajplus) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ajplus\/status\/1433544763450482688?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 2, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Footage from Potter\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/12\/daunte-wright-bodycam-fatal-shooting-minnesota\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bodycam<\/a> shows that Wright managed to break free from police officers who had pulled his hands behind his back in the process of detainment. The 20-year-old then jumped in the driver\u2019s seat of his car, put the car in gear, and attempted to speed off.<\/p>\n<p>Before Wright started driving away, Potter yelled, \u201cTaser! Taser!\u201d Instead of brandishing her taser, she pulled out her handgun and shot Wright at point-blank range, which investigators reportedly claim was a mistake. However, Wright\u2019s lawyers argue that a properly trained officer should know the difference between holding a pistol and a taser, Fox News noted.<\/p>\n<p>After Potter shot Wright, Write started driving off, but crashed his vehicle and the episode concluded in his death and an injured passenger. Potter eventually <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/13\/kim-potter-tim-gannon-resignation-daunte-wright\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resigned<\/a> due to the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his death, Wright was charged with robbery after he allegedly demanded money from a woman at gunpoint. Wright then violated the terms of his release when he allegedly brandished a handgun near an intersection, but was able to escape officers who responded to the alleged threat by disposing of the firearm and fleeing on foot, Fox News reported.<\/p>\n<p>When officers pulled Wright over in April, they discovered the outstanding warrant for his arrest and attempted to arrest him, leading to the violent interaction between Wright and police, according to Fox News. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/14\/rep-cori-bush-daunte-wright-kim-potter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Rep. Caleb Livingston was allegedly shot in the head by Wright in 2019 and has been in a \u201cvegetative state\u201d since, Fox News reported.
