In Blacksburg, where Virginia Tech is <a href=\"https:\/\/vt.edu\/maps.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">located<\/a>, there was a tornado warning on Aug. 31, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NWSBlacksburg\/status\/1432853397938470912\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One image <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/carole.lang.12\/posts\/4651070038238761\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shared on Facebook<\/a> purportedly shows three tornadoes touching down over Virginia Tech that night. \u201cString of 3 tornados over Virginia Tech 7:30 PM Tuesday August 31 2021,\u201d reads text included in the post. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/07\/09\/fact-check-tornado-citizens-bank-park-philadelphia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Video Show A Tornado Passing Close To Citizens Bank Park In Philadelphia?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The image, however, predates the recent storm in Blacksburg. A <a href=\"https:\/\/tineye.com\/search\/175cb50959bc7babc3ec1a00600bbd11f7c21b67?sort=crawl_date&amp;order=asc&amp;page=1https:\/\/tineye.com\/search\/175cb50959bc7babc3ec1a00600bbd11f7c21b67?sort=crawl_date&amp;order=asc&amp;page=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reverse image search<\/a> revealed a nearly identical version of the picture showing only one funnel cloud has been available for sale on the stock photo website&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/stockagency.panthermedia.net\/m\/stock-photos\/6443441\/tornado\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PantherMedia<\/a> since at least 2013. Another iteration with three tornadoes was&nbsp;also featured in a May 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homeadvisor.com\/r\/worst-tornadoes-in-us-and-world-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HomeAdvisor<\/a> article&nbsp;discussing some of the most powerful recorded tornadoes.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact searched local news outlets, including <a href=\"https:\/\/roanoke.com\/search\/?nsa=eedition&amp;app=editorial&amp;d1=&amp;d2=&amp;s=start_time&amp;sd=desc&amp;l=25&amp;t=article%2Cvideo%2Cyoutube%2Ccollection&amp;q=three+tornadoes&amp;d1=&amp;d2=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Roanoke Times<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/montcova.com\/?s=three+tornadoes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">News Messenger<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegiatetimes.com\/search\/?l=25&amp;s=start_time&amp;sd=desc&amp;f=html&amp;t=article%2Cvideo%2Cyoutube%2Ccollection&amp;app=editorial&amp;nsa=eedition&amp;q=tornado\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Collegiate Times<\/a>, but didn\u2019t find any reporting about three tornadoes simultaneously touching down near Virginia Tech. There is likewise no mention of such an event on the NWS in Blacksburg\u2019s verified <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=three%20tornadoes%20(from%3ANWSBlacksburg)&amp;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter account<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Check Your Fact found no evidence linking the photo to Blacksburg, two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/oun\/efscale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EF-1<\/a> tornadoes did touch down on Aug. 31 at different locations in Montgomery County, the county that encompasses Virginia Tech, causing minor damage, according to a preliminary report from <a href=\"https:\/\/nwschat.weather.gov\/p.php?pid=202109012217-KRNK-NOUS41-PNSRNK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NWS<\/a>. Footage of tornado-like activity allegedly in the area was <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JBuchinskyWX\/status\/1432836168526274560\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">retweeted<\/a> by NWS Blacksburg\u2019s Twitter account the same day.
