Weeks after the Taliban took control of Kabul, hundreds of Americans remain stranded in Afghanistan, including dozens of students from the Sacramento area.<\/p>\n<p>The family and friends of two young girls who traveled from California to Afghanistan in July have been doing everything they can to help bring them home safely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey went to Afghanistan because of their dad\u2019s funeral and they really need help,\u201d said Fatima Akbari, a friend of one of the girls currently stuck in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>The older sister of the two girls said they\u2019re staying with their mother at a family member\u2019s home in Kabul. She has been communicating with them by phone, but they relayed to her that they\u2019re unable to return safely because of threats from the Taliban.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe said to me all airport closed because the Taliban in Afghanistan,\u201d said Behshta.<\/p>\n<p>Officials with the San Juan Unified School District in Sacramento confirmed a total of 29 students are stuck in Afghanistan and they\u2019re doing everything they can to help them. In addition, dozens of students from San Diego County were also stranded in Afghanistan and have been gradually returning to the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after Joe Biden made a promise that any American who wanted to come home, would be able to come home.
