His show closed with the heartrending story of a woman who died of cancer after she could not receive treatment, due to the stress that COVID-19 put on the medical system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cListen, here is how I feel about that,\u201d Lemon told Cuomo. \u201cIf you\u2019re not going to get vaccinated, you don\u2019t want to social distance, you don\u2019t want to wear a mask, then maybe you don\u2019t want to go to the hospital when you get sick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that sounds harsh,\u201d he continued, \u201cbut you\u2019re taking up the space for people who are doing things the right way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Cuomo attempted to turn the spotlight back to the couple he highlighted at the end of his show, Lemon began to rant that Americans who are not yet fully vaccinated should not receive medical treatment for the effects of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>The decision not to take the COVID-19 vaccination \u201cis putting a stress and strain on the system and people all over this country, because some people who are so selfish are saying, \u2018It\u2019s my freedom, and I don\u2019t want to get vaccinated.\u2019 OK, fine. But think about someone other than yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p><em>And if you don\u2019t believe that COVID is real and that it can affect your health and possibly take your life, don\u2019t go to the hospital then when you get sick! Don\u2019t take up the resources from other people who are playing by the rules, getting vaccinated, social distancing and putting their lives on the line to try to take care of the people who are there. That\u2019s all I\u2019m saying. That\u2019s how I feel. And I don\u2019t apologize.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Chris Cuomo nodded along approvingly before adding, \u201cI love you, D. The UK\u2019s National Health System, or NHS, regularly denies routine medical care to people who are overweight or who smoke.<\/p>\n<p>The NHS allowed a 56-year-old woman to <a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/opinion\/i-was-denied-nhs-treatment-because-my-bmi-was-too-high-391180\">suffer<\/a> from gallstones for approximately two months before placing her on the 16-week waiting list, because she was overweight according to the Body Mass Index chart. When she went to see her doctor in November 2019, he \u201cinformed me that, because of my BMI, I couldn\u2019t even be referred to my local hospital for further treatment as the referral wouldn\u2019t be accepted,\u201d she told a UK newspaper. She was eventually scheduled to be \u201ctreated by late May, nearly 14 months after her symptoms first started,\u201d the paper reported.<\/p>\n<p>There has been no word on how the NHS\u2019s strict COVID-19 healthcare rationing affected her surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Healthcare rationers targeted overweight people and smokers as \u201csoft targets for NHS savings,\u201d according to a 2016 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcseng.ac.uk\/library-and-publications\/rcs-publications\/docs\/smokers-soft-targets\/\">report<\/a> from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.<\/p>\n<p>That report found that refusing overweight people access to hip and knee surgeries, hernia surgeries, and\/or tonsillectomies based on their Body Mass Index had already become the norm in roughly one-third of the regulatory bodies that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/ccgs\/\">determine<\/a> which procedures are available to patients through their local NHS, known as clinical commissioning groups (CCGs).<\/p>\n<p>At the time, some healthcare providers linked the NHS\u2019s denial of treatment to racial discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey [the patients] are trying to lose weight in the vast majority of cases and to deny them treatment that they need on the basis of their weight, without then offering them effective help to help them lose weight is rather like discriminating [against] a segment of the population on the basis of their colour or religious persuasion,\u201d British bariatric surgeon Shaw Somers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2016\/sep\/03\/hospitals-to-cut-costs-by-denying-surgery-to-smokers-and-the-obese\">told<\/a> The Guardian in 2016.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
