Pluto TV serves up a bounty of classic content, from old-school TV favorites to newer fare, like a channel dedicated to \u201cTosh.0\u201d reruns.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Unsure where to start? Try \u201cMystery Science Theater 3000,\u201d \u201cCOPS,\u201d \u201cDallas Cowboys Cheerleaders\u201d and \u201cBlack Ink Crew.\u201d The guide offers general categories, like Comedy, Reality and Classic TV, scratching the surface of what\u2019s to come.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Plus, the Pluto TV lineup is always changing, growing, and the selection is so diverse there\u2019s something for virtually any consumer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>TUBI<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>This mighty app offers a crush of first-rate movies, TV shows and more. Just be careful. It could take you a while to surf through the various categories \u2013 think \u201caction horror,\u201d \u201cback to school,\u201d \u201cBollywood dreams\u201d and \u201cfound footage horror.\u201d There\u2019s even a fitness channel with recent videos and classic \u201cJane Fonda\u201d workouts.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The kids category alone offers a robust array of sub-categories, from anime to content with \u201chorses and ponies\u201d and \u201cfriendly monsters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Tubi originals like \u201cSwim\u201d are for diehard horror fans, but there\u2019s enough content here to delight most audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Crackle<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>This \u201cveteran\u201d platform made waves by debuting Jerry Seinfeld\u2019s \u201cComedians in Cars Getting Coffee\u201d way back in 2012. Now, the service delivers a robust mix of existing TV shows and films, alphabetically assembled for your consideration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The navigation is clear, although new users will be asked to sign in, free of charge, before getting access to the dashboard. Have your library card number handy for a quicker experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>From there you\u2019re able to digitally borrow movies, music, ebooks, TV shows and more, downloading them to your device du jour. Plus, you can either watch the content instantly or download it for later viewing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Popcornflix<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>This app delivers big, beautiful movie posters to let you know what\u2019s available in yet another seemingly endless carousel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>You\u2019ll find the usual movie suspects along with lesser-known titles well worth your time. Think \u201cMemory: The Origins of Alien\u201d documentary or \u201cCasino Jack.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The \u201cclassic\u201d horror channel is more than welcome, as is \u201cAsian Action.\u201d Too bad the latter category has only two titles at the moment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The emphasis here is on indie and obscure content, which means you\u2019ll make some wonderful discoveries and regret more than a few choices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Plex<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>At first, this platform mimics the look and catalogues of its peers. Think movies, TV shows and some colorful categories (\u201cBest of the West,\u201d for example).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>We\u2019re also treated to a Pluto TV-style guide that looks like live TV (and is called just that). The guide\u2019s Music tab offers a diverse array of content, from \u201cParty Time Karaoke\u201d to \u201cQwest Classical.\u201d You\u2019ll also find channels dedicated to specific movie studios, like Magnolia and Lionsgate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The neat twist here? Plex delivers podcasts on demand, from \u201cLouder with Crowder\u201d to \u201cThe Tim Dillon Show.\u201d It\u2019s a shame the video versions of these shows don\u2019t pop up instead of the audio versions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>IMDB TV<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>The platform brings some serious online gravitas to the game given the namesake\u2019s essential web site. Miss the TV shows of your youth? Chances are you\u2019ll find them here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>What\u2019s missing? You won\u2019t find a cavalcade of classic films here. Most of the content is from the 1980s and up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Users also can sample a small selection of films and TV shows which are, we\u2019re told, freely available only on IMDB TV. Given all the competition in this space, that matters, but given the brand in play the pickings fall on the slim side.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Filmrise<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>The platform offers a plain but effective menu along with the standard issue categories. That\u2019s enhanced by clever sub-categories like \u201cTrue Stories,\u201d \u201cGreat Sitcoms\u201d and \u201cLeading Women.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Once again, the sub-categories fall on the falsely \u201cambitious\u201d side. The \u201cGreat Sitcoms\u201d banner leads to a grand total of five shows, including the satisfying but hardly \u201cgreat\u201d \u201cCybill.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Far better are its niche categories, like the robust \u201cWorld Cinema\u201d channel. Still, users should expect less mainstream fare when streaming content here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Not satisfied? Smart devices (TVs, tablets and Roku sticks) offer even more content apps than you can possibly imagine. Some offer the bare minimum of programming.
