Shell said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shell.us\/media\/us-storm-center\/shell-us-storm-updates\/2021-storm-updates\/hurricane-ida-update-5.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aug. 28 statement<\/a> that it had \u201cshut in production and evacuated all personnel from Ursa, Mars, Olympus, Auger, Enchilada\/Salsa and Appomattox assets\u201d as a precaution ahead of the category 4 hurricane.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook post features a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/144616042850131\/posts\/848743402437388\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">screen grab<\/a> of a \u201cbreaking news\u201d alert that the Facebook page <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MSWeatherNetwork\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mississippi Weather Network<\/a> posted over the weekend. The page alleged sources had confirmed the \u201cShell Mars \/ Olympus Deep Water oil platform\u201d had broken loose and was \u201cfree within the Gulf of Mexico.\u201d&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/08\/30\/fact-check-traffic-jam-evacuations-hurricane-ida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Image Show A Traffic Jam During Evacuations Before Hurricane Ida?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The post\u2019s claim, however, doesn\u2019t hold up under scrutiny. In an Aug. 30 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shell.us\/media\/us-storm-center\/shell-us-storm-updates\/2021-storm-updates\/hurricane-ida-update-8.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>, Shell said it had conducted a flyover that \u201cwas able to confirm that Mars, Olympus and Ursa are all intact and on location.\u201d The U.S. Coast Guard had previously reported \u201cvisual confirmation\u201d that \u201cShell-operated Mars, Olympus, and Ursa platforms remain on location,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shell.us\/media\/us-storm-center\/shell-us-storm-updates\/2021-storm-updates\/hurricane-ida-update-7.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">another statement<\/a> from the energy producer.<\/p>\n<p>The Mississippi Weather Network later deleted the Facebook post that made the claim. It wrote in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MSWeatherNetwork\/posts\/4202362756527682\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aug. 29 post<\/a> that its \u201creport on a potential issue with an oil related vessel in the Gulf of Mexico has been completely redacted until further information can be verified by the oil company(ies) in question or U.S. government officials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>None of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsee.gov\/newsroom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press releases<\/a> put out by the Interior Department\u2019s Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement mentions the Shell deep-water oil platform becoming dislodged from its mooring in the Gulf.
