Cross won a temporary injunction in the 12th U.S. Circuit Court in June and subsequently was allowed to return to the classroom.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The district did not make an adequate case for reversing the lower court&#8217;s June <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/judge-orders-district-to-reinstate-teacher-suspended-for-objecting-to-transgender-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/judge-orders-district-to-reinstate-teacher-suspended-for-objecting-to-transgender-policy\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1630520604205000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHDduoz6s5CehecVed8PAXX6G18kA\">decision<\/a>, reaffirming Cross&#8217;s win, the Virginia Supreme Court said Monday.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In its appeal, Loudoun County Public Schools claimed that Cross&#8217;s religious and speech protections are secondary to students&#8217; rights to comfort.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;While LCPS respects the rights of public-school employees to free speech and free exercise of religion, those rights do not outweigh the rights of students to be educated in a supportive and nurturing environment,&#8221; the district claimed.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Virginia governor Ralph Northam (D.) last year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/education\/virginias-transgender-students-win-safeguards-against-harassment-under-new-law\/2020\/03\/05\/0cadde8c-5e6d-11ea-b014-4fafa866bb81_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/education\/virginias-transgender-students-win-safeguards-against-harassment-under-new-law\/2020\/03\/05\/0cadde8c-5e6d-11ea-b014-4fafa866bb81_story.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1630520604205000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHwprzy8I8bUrA33PSv-J78CqZh1Q\">approved<\/a> a measure requiring public schools to create and implement protections for transgender students by the 2021-2022 school year.
