Greg Murphy and Republicans on the House Veterans Affairs Committee (HVAC) sent a Tuesday letter to Chairman Mark Takano, asking him to immediately reconvene the committee to hold a hearing on how President Joe Biden\u2019s withdraw from Afghanistan impacted veterans\u2019 mental health.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Caller first obtained the letter <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/13\/republicans-introduce-bill-defining-meaning-infrastructure-greg-murphy-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Murphy<\/a> sent alongside seven other Republicans on the committee, slamming Biden for his \u201cfailed withdrawal from Afghanistan,\u201d saying it could likely have a psychological impact on veterans in the U.S. and particularly those who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq over the past 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs our nation bears witness to President Biden\u2019s failed withdrawal from Afghanistan this week, our nation\u2019s veterans are being bombarded with devastating images of retreat and loss of life. As a result, many veterans have understandably expressed fear, distain, or regret about their prior service, worrying if their service and the loss of fellow servicemen occurred in vain,\u201d the group wrote in the letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we mourn the sacrifice that our selfless Marines and servicemembers are making in Kabul, we are deeply concerned about the psychological impact that this foreign policy disaster is having on our nation\u2019s veterans at home. With this in mind, we urge you to bring the HVAC committee back to Washington, D.C. immediately to conduct a full committee hearing on the short and long-term implications of this devasting [sic] withdrawal on our veterans,\u201d they continued.<\/p>\n<p>The group of Republicans also called on the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs to be a witness before the committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, another witness should be the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, who may provide all the resources the VA has to offer to combat this mental health challenge among the veteran community. I represent over 89,000 veterans in North Carolina\u2019s Third District, which includes Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune,\u201d Murphy told the Caller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery day I am hearing from veterans and their loved ones who express serious concern regarding ongoing events in Afghanistan. It\u2019s heartbreaking, especially considering that this self-inflicted crisis is the result of Biden\u2019s failed foreign policy. As members of the House Veterans\u2019 Affairs Committee (HVAC), we have an obligation to provide resources for our veterans and assure them that they are not alone. There is never any shame in asking for help. I urge Chairman Takano to call our committee back to Washington immediately so we can hear from experts and discuss much-needed veteran mental health services in the wake of this crisis \u2014 we simply cannot afford to wait,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy was joined by Republican Reps. Mike Bost of Illinois, Jack Bergman of Michigan, Matt Rosendale of Montana, Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa, Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina, Jake Ellzey of Texas and Barry Moore of Alabama. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/30\/biden-afghanistan-kabul-withdrawal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: President Biden To Address Nation On Afghanistan Withdrawal Tuesday)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/30\/biden-afghanistan-kabul-withdrawal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">will address the nation on military withdrawal<\/a> from Afghanistan on Tuesday afternoon, the White House announced late Monday. Biden\u2019s withdrawal left more than 200 U.S. citizens stranded in Afghanistan under Taliban control.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Caller contacted Takano\u2019s office to see if he would consider bringing the committee back into session, to which they did not immediately respond.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican North Carolina Rep.
