Wade.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Abortion groups asked the Supreme Court Monday to block a pro-life Texas law from going into effect Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexans, like everyone else in this country, should be able to count on safe abortion care in their own state,\u201d Whole Woman\u2019s Health CEO Amy Hagstrom Miller <a href=\"https:\/\/reproductiverights.org\/breaking-fate-of-texas-abortion-ban-is-with-the-supreme-court\/\">said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cNo one should be forced to drive hundreds of miles or be made to continue a pregnancy against their will, yet that\u2019s what will happen unless the Supreme Court steps in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Represented by attorneys from the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Reproductive Rights, abortion groups asked the highest court in the land to block the enforcement of Texas\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/TX\/bill\/SB8\/2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Heartbeat Act<\/a> (S.B. 8), signed into law May 19. The law <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/19\/texas-abbott-signs-heartbeat-act\/\">bans<\/a>&nbsp;abortions after the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/14\/greg-abbott-roe-v-wade-texas\/\">unborn baby<\/a>\u2018s heartbeat can be detected, usually by about six weeks, and makes exceptions for medical emergencies but not in cases of rape or incest.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"View WWH v Jackson - Emergency Application Only on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/522394238\/WWH-v-Jackson-Emergency-Application-Only#from_embed\">WWH v Jackson \u2013 Emergency A\u2026<\/a> by <a title=\"View Mary Margaret Olohan&#039;s profile on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/user\/506904746\/Mary-Margaret-Olohan#from_embed\">Mary Margaret Olohan<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Heartbeat Act has raised the ire of pro-abortion advocates as it allows \u201cany person\u201d to sue doctors, abortion clinics, or anyone who \u201cknowingly engages in conduct that aids or abets the performance or inducement of an abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those who sue over an abortion may be awarded $10,000 \u201cfor each abortion that the defendant\u201d performed, induced, aided, or abetted in violation of the law \u2014 monetary amounts that some pro-abortion advocates are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoyAnnReid\/status\/1414556649004703748?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">calling<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cbounties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The abortion groups asked the Supreme Court to block the law only two days before it was scheduled to go into effect. Center for Reproductive Rights President Nancy Northrop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/08\/30\/politics\/abortion-texas-supreme-court\/index.html\">warned<\/a> that if the law is not blocked within the next two days, \u201cTexas politicians will have effectively overturned Roe v. This is Talibanism.
