U.S. authorities said 11 of them were Marines and the others were a Navy medic and an Army soldier, the outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/us-service-members-killed-kabul-airport-attack\/story?id=79685589\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The image in the Aug. 27 tweet shows what appears to be a collage of 16 servicemen\u2019s photos. \u201c#Americans who died in #KabulAirport blast yesterday,\u201d the tweet reads.&nbsp;<span class=\"gmail-css-901oao gmail-css-16my406 gmail-r-poiln3 gmail-r-bcqeeo gmail-r-qvutc0\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/08\/26\/fact-check-donald-trump-distracted-afghanistan-keep-eye-washington\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Donald Trump Say To \u2018Not Be Distracted\u2019 By The Afghanistan Crisis And To \u2018Keep One Eye On Washington\u2019? )<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The men in the photo were not, however, victims of the recent bombing in Kabul. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found the same collage posted in a July 13, 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/07\/13\/us\/marines-crash-victims.html\">New York Times article<\/a>. The servicemen died when their KC-130 transport plane crashed in Mississippi on July 10, 2017, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>A similar collage with the same 16 men\u2019s photos was also included in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation-now\/2017\/07\/14\/kc-130-t-marine-plane-crash-victims\/479394001\/\">July 2017 article<\/a> published by USA Today. The crash was an accident, and a Marine general said it appeared to have been caused by a mechanical failure, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/checkpoint\/wp\/2017\/07\/14\/here-are-the-names-and-photos-of-the-15-marines-and-sailor-who-died-in-mississippi-plane-crash\/\">Washington Post<\/a> reported in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Defense Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/Newsroom\/Releases\/Release\/Article\/2756011\/dod-identifies-marine-corps-navy-and-army-casualties\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">published<\/a> the names of the service members killed in the Kabul airport attack on Aug. 28, and a CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/08\/27\/us\/kabul-attack-us-service-members-killed\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> featured photos of several of them.
