My heart breaks for the U.S. service members wounded in the explosion and the innocent Afghan lives lost. I am inspired by the strength and compassion of our troops and pray for their safety,\u201d Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Some blamed the Biden administration for allowing the situation to unfold.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">\u201cAmericans are dying at the hands of President Biden\u2019s catastrophic withdrawal from <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">Afghanistan<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">. We need to move heaven and earth to get our citizens and allies out of Afghanistan safely,\u201d tweeted Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), a former U.S. military officer, tweeted that, \u201cJoe Biden\u2019s incompetence has now cost American lives in Afghanistan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was avoidable and is unforgivable!!\u201d Banks added.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. embassy in Afghanistan <a href=\"https:\/\/af.usembassy.gov\/security-alert-u-s-embassy-kabul-august-26-2021\/\">warned<\/a> U.S. citizens that there were also reports of gunfire and to avoid traveling to the airport.
