She was living a double life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear whether Hari obtained any sex change surgery. Staff at the Sherburne County Sherriff\u2019s Office would not discuss Hari\u2019s case with the DCNF, but they did confirm Hari is currently housed in the Sherburne County jail.<\/p>\n<p>The LGBTQ publication LGBTQ Nation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2021\/08\/convicted-mosque-bomber-argues-transgender-identity-get-lenient-sentence\/\">criticized Hari\u2019s attorney<\/a> for \u201cplaying on old transphobic stereotypes\u201d that suggest transgender people are \u201cpsychopathic.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/12\/scott-weiner-california-trans-prisons\/\">(RELATED: \u2018I\u2019m Really Proud Of That Law\u2019: California State Senator Defends Law Allowing Biological Males Into Women\u2019s Prisons)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHari\u2019s Islamophobia and right-wing ideology drove her actions, not her trans identity,\u201d the publication said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"8.0952380952381\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">She bombed a mosque while Muslims were praying inside, but now she\u2019s begging the court to take pity on her because she was living a \u201cdouble life.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/LGBTQ?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#LGBTQ<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LZGGkJxU5y\">https:\/\/t.co\/LZGGkJxU5y<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 LGBTQ Nation (@lgbtqnation) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lgbtqnation\/status\/1430260695724019713?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 24, 2021<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Hari formerly served as a Ford County sheriff\u2019s deputy, ran a gun store, and unsuccessfully ran in 1998 as a Libertarian candidate for sheriff, the Ford County Record <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fordcountyrecord.com\/news\/michael-hari-arrested-for-assault-of-neighbor-in-clarence\/article_f88eebdf-17c2-5ba0-9031-53bb62e08fdd.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a>. The bomber has faced several legal disputes, the publication reported: Hari allegedly assaulted a neighbor in 2017, and in 2005, after a judge granted temporary custody of Hari\u2019s daughters to the bomber\u2019s wife, Hari allegedly abducted the girls until 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Hari also self-published several books and started a security company, according to the Ford County Record. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/09\/01\/california-legislature-sex-offender-registry\/\">(RELATED: California Legislature Softens Sex Offender Registry Requirements For Sodomy With Minors)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In August 2017, Hari drove to Minnesota with 25-year-old Joe Morris and 31-year-old Michael McWhorter in a pickup truck filled with weapons, the Star Tribune reported. Morris and McWhorter both pleaded guilty, but Hari continues to deny taking part in the bombing.<\/p>\n<p id=\"rlFA3m\">\u201cThe property damage was collateral to [Hari\u2019s] real purpose,\u201d prosecutors who argued for Hari to receive a life sentence said in court documents, the Star Tribune reported. \u201cThis bomb \u2014 the defendant\u2019s bomb \u2014 was an act of terror intended to destroy the heart of a community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"9Kgosj\">\u201cTo this day, the Dar al-Farooq community feels unsafe gathering, praying, and bringing their families to the mosque,\u201d the prosecutors said, according to the publication. \u201cWith a single calculated attack, the defendant irrevocably destroyed the sense of safety and peace that a house of worship is supposed to provide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hari\u2019s lawyer describes the bomber as a misunderstood \u201cpacifist.\u201d&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/12\/california-transgender-lgbtq-condoms-prison-gavin-newsom\/\">(RELATED: California Women\u2019s Prison Housing Trans Prisoners Halts Condom Distribution Without Explanation, Memo Shows)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"Heke94\">\u201cShe is not a \u2018White Nationalist,\u2019 a \u2018Neo Nazi,\u2019 a \u2018Skinhead,\u2019 a \u2018Boogaloo Boi,\u2019 nor part of the \u2018Arian [sic] Brotherhood,&#8217;\u201d the attorney said of Hari, according to the Star Tribune, emphasizing that Hari was influenced by right-wing blogs and conspiracies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis degrading, anti-Muslim, and Islamophobic rhetoric and misinformation has spread throughout the United States over the past several years through social media and the internet,\u201d Elkins said in court documents, the publication reported.<\/p>\n<p id=\"AEi15L\">\u201cEmily Hari is more than a one-note caricature,\u201d the attorney continued. \u201cShe is a complex human being who has been convicted by a jury of her peers. She will stand before this Court for sentencing, facing life in prison.
