The Biden administration has repeatedly shifted the blame to states, which it says have fallen behind on disbursing the assistance to low-income renters facing potential eviction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTreasury continues to use every lever at its disposal to urge states to distribute assistance to renters and landlords swiftly,\u201d the agency said.<\/p>\n<p>The Treasury Department has given $25 billion and made 40% of the remaining $21.6 billion in ERA funds available to states. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/05\/landlords-joe-biden-cdc-eviction-moratorium-lawsuit\/\">(RELATED: \u2018Not The Answer\u2019: Landlords Slam Biden\u2019s Eviction Moratorium Extension, Ask Federal Court To Intervene)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>States have steadily picked up the pace in disbursing ERA funds to residents who meet the federal government\u2019s qualifications for receiving assistance, but have still failed to efficiently get funds into the hands of those in need, according to the Treasury data.&nbsp;Virginia and Texas, which have had the most success distributing the rental assistance, have awarded 53% and 46% of their allocated funds as of July 31.<\/p>\n<p>But the majority of states have disbursed less than 14% of the ERA funds given by the federal government, the data showed. (Spencer Platt\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cOne of the biggest challenges many state and local government programs continue to face in getting assistance to renters and landlords is application processing delays,\u201d the Treasury Department said. \u201cAccording to public dashboards, hundreds of thousands of applications are in the pipeline beyond those that have already been paid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/20\/appeals-court-eviction-moratorium-joe-biden-administration-joe-biden-centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention-national-association-of-realtors\/\">expected<\/a> to soon rule on the constitutionality of the eviction moratorium extension recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/media\/releases\/2021\/s0803-cdc-eviction-order.html\">issued<\/a> by the Biden administration. The high court previously upheld the moratorium, but <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/29\/justice-kavanaugh-supreme-court-realtors-eviction-moratorium-cdc\/\">indicated<\/a>&nbsp;it couldn\u2019t be extended beyond July 31 without congressional authorization.<\/p>\n<p>About 12 million Americans said they had little to no confidence in being able to make their next rent payment, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/data\/tables\/2021\/demo\/hhp\/hhp33.html\">according<\/a> to a recent Census Bureau survey. More than 7.9 million renters said they are behind on rent in the same survey.<\/p>\n<p>House Financial Services Ranking Member Patrick McHenry has blamed the Biden administration for the slow pace of rental assistance distribution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden Administration is failing to provide Emergency Rental Assistance to Americans in need,\u201d McHenry told the Daily Caller News Foundation last month. \u201cWith millions of families worried they\u2019ll lose their homes \u2026 we need to act now to correct this gross mismanagement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut instead of working with us, Democrats are more focused on their progressive agenda \u2014 leaving renters twisting in the wind,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
