The Trump administration in August 2020 slapped Huawei with restrictions that limited its ability to purchase chips in the United States, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/smartphones-business-china-asia-pacific-us-news-7a01cf8cf13f7681df62094f27b1bcbc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">citing<\/a> national security concerns.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A Department of Commerce spokesman could neither confirm nor deny a change in licensing restrictions for Huawei. A Huawei spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter but said the Chinese tech powerhouse intends to move into the auto manufacturing industry, an area where it could potentially circumvent U.S. sanctions.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Mike Rogers (R., Ala.), the ranking member on the House Armed Services Committee said Huawei&#8217;s incursion into the U.S. chip industry\u2014even after Trump administration sanctioned the company\u2014is an &#8220;alarming but unsurprising&#8221; decision from the Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Is there a dictator or despot that this administration won\u2019t surrender to, appease, or enrich?&#8221; Rogers <a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-armedservices.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/rogers-administration-must-immediately-reverse-decision-allow-sale-microchips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked<\/a>. &#8220;I urge the administration to immediately reverse this decision before further harm is done to U.S. national security.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Chinese transportation technologies often come with significant national security risks. CRRC, a Chinese rolling stock enterprise with millions of dollars in American investment, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rtands.com\/passenger\/rail-security-alliance-expresses-concern-about-crrc-to-u-s-dept-of-defense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> uses Uyghur Muslim slave labor and is under control of the People\u2019s Liberation Army. Huawei also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/07\/08\/huawei-staff-and-chinese-military-have-deep-links-study-claims.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has<\/a> connections to the Chinese military.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration has struggled to keep the influence of tech giants like Huawei at bay.
