On Monday, U.S. officials handed Eduardo Arellano Felix over to the Mexican Army and Attorney General\u2019s Office at a border crossing.<\/p>\n<p>The cartel boss was coming from a Pennsylvania federal prison, where he served time after he pled guilty to laundering money for his family\u2019s cartel. Arellano Felix has been a topic of controversy after the U.S. indicted him in 2003 for drug smuggling and money laundering. Officials even went so far as to offer a reward of up to $5 million for his capture.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Former <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Tijuana?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Tijuana<\/a> Cartel leader was deported to Mexico via the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Gateway?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Gateway<\/a> Bridge Eduardo Arellano Felix, aka &#8220;El Doctor&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qlSXva8BgZ\">https:\/\/t.co\/qlSXva8BgZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Iris Rodriguez (@IrisNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IrisNews\/status\/1429941016900026371?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 23, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In 2008, he was captured by Mexican security forces after a shootout in Tijuana, but was ultimately sent back to the U.S. in 2012. He\u2019s the last of four brothers in connection with the drug trafficking ring who have been either killed or sent to prison.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, Republicans like congressman Chip Roy (R-Texas) has warned that cartels continue to pose an active threat at the southern border.
