I\u2019ll see you soon,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In June, Williams was forced to retire from Wimbledon after suffering a leg injury in her first-round matchup against unseeded <\/span><span>Aliaksandra Sasnovich. It marked the first time Williams had not made it past the first round of Wimbledon, and just the second time in her illustrious career where she had to retire from a match at a major.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Before Wimbledon, Williams announced that she would be skipping the Tokyo Olympics \u2014 though the hamstring injury at Wimbledon would have precluded her from participating anyway.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of reasons that I made my Olympic decision,\u201d she <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/olympics\/summer\/tennis\/story\/_\/id\/31718541\/serena-williams-says-not-going-tokyo-olympics\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cI don\u2019t really want to \u2014 I don\u2019t feel like going into them today. Maybe another day. Sorry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI have not thought about it. In the past [the Olympics] has been a wonderful place for me. I really haven\u2019t thought about it, so I\u2019m going to keep not thinking about it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In withdrawing from the US Open, Williams will once again have to wait for her opportunity to tie Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam singles titles.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On the men\u2019s side, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal also will not be participating.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Federer announced that he was withdrawing from the US Open last week, citing the need for a third surgery on his right knee. The surgery certainly puts the future in doubt for the 40-year-old.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI want to give myself a glimmer of hope to return to the tour in some shape or form,\u2019\u2019 Federer <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/08\/15\/roger-federers-future-in-doubt-after-us-open-withdrawal\/&#039;\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cI am realistic. Don\u2019t get me wrong. I know how difficult it is at this age to do another surgery and try it. But I want to be healthy and I\u2019ll go through the rehab process.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Nadal withdrew shortly after Federer\u2019s announcement due to a left foot injury.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI needed to talk with my family, with my team and with my doctors especially to understand what is going on,\u201d Nadal <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/rafael-nadal-withdraws-from-us-open-shuts-down-for-2021-115432733.html\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cBut the foot is not the proper way today and during the last year I was not able to practice and prepare myself the way I need to to be competitive at the standard I want to be.
