Washington Post reporter Dan Lamothe <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DanLamothe\/status\/1430256100012707842\">confirmed<\/a> the story, adding that the withdrawal would begin slowly.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2021\/08\/20\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-evacuations-in-afghanistan\/\">ordered<\/a> more than 5,000 American troops to be sent to Kabul to secure the airport perimeter last week after the U.S.-backed Afghanistan government <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/19\/taliban-us-weapons-vehicles-equipment-afghanistan-defense-department\/\">collapsed<\/a> and the Taliban <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/18\/armed-services-committee-republicans-taliban-american-weapons-afghanistan\/\">claimed control<\/a> of the country. The Taliban has repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/24\/taliban-afghans-not-allowed-airport-us-must-leave-aug-31\/\">warned<\/a> the U.S. not to leave troops in Afghanistan after Aug. 31 even if not all Americans in the Middle Eastern nation <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/24\/americans-evacuated-afghanistan-white-house-several-thousand-remain\/\">have been evacuated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The White House has promised to do whatever it takes to evacuate Americans who want to leave Afghanistan, but the Taliban has made it increasingly difficult for both Afghans and Americans to reach the airport, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/laraseligman\/status\/1430250972568334338\">tweeted<\/a>&nbsp;Politico reporter Lara Seligman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring a meeting this morning with the G7 leaders, the President conveyed that our mission in Kabul will end based on the achievement of our objectives,\u201d White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/08\/24\/statement-by-press-secretary-jen-psaki-on-president-bidens-meeting-with-g7-leaders-2\/\">statement<\/a> prior to the Fox News report Tuesday. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/24\/americans-evacuated-afghanistan-white-house-several-thousand-remain\/\">(RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Internal Numbers Show White House Poised To Leave Several Thousand Americans Behind Enemy Lines In Afghanistan)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe confirmed we are currently on pace to finish by August 31st and provided an update on progress in evacuating Americans who want to come home, third-country nationals, and Afghans who were our allies during the war,\u201d her statement continued.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"8.15625\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: The U.S. military has started withdrawing from Afghanistan reducing troop presence: U.S. officials<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Lucas Tomlinson (@LucasFoxNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LucasFoxNews\/status\/1430242728990973953?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 24, 2021<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>CIA Director William Burns <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/24\/cia-william-burns-taliban-kabul\/\">reportedly<\/a> flew to Kabul on Monday to meet with Taliban leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, the U.S. embassy in Kabul issued an alert saying American citizens would be on their own if they didn\u2019t quickly evacuate Afghanistan, NBC News chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RichardEngel\/status\/1430249556655083522\">tweeted<\/a>.
