Jim McGovern told reporters. \u201cIt is my hope that my colleagues who recognize the very simple choice to advance the president\u2019s agenda or obstruct it.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Republicans railed against the deal as a \u201cscheme\u201d that would enable a massive spending spree. \u201cThe American people are fed up with the Democrats\u2019 reckless spending,\u201d said Missouri Republican Rep. Jason Smith. \u201cThey bring forth a budget resolution that \u2026 [is] the most spending in the history of this country.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The House Tuesday voted on a deal to adopt the framework for President Joe Biden\u2019s $3.5 trillion budget and advance the bipartisan infrastructure bill after Democratic leadership and moderates broke an hours-long stalemate over how the two would be prioritized in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The deal, which passed 220-212 on a party-line vote, allows for the House to begin crafting its reconciliation bill and sets the infrastructure package up to pass the chamber on Sept. 27. It followed multiple Rules Committee hearings and hours of intraparty deliberations between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her team and a group of moderate Democrats who insisted on taking up the infrastructure bill first, directly opposed to both dozens of progressives and the speaker herself.<\/p>\n<p>On the House floor, Pelosi said the deal represented \u201ca great day of pride for our country and Democrats,\u201d adding that \u201cby Oct. 1, we will hope to have in place \u2026 the legislation for infrastructure that is bipartisan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The impasse torpedoed the original plan to vote on the rule Monday night, even as top Democrats pleaded with the holdouts in their party to vote in favor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou all have to vote for the goddamn rule,\u201d House Rules Chairman Jim McGovern reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bresreports\/status\/1429930181452570631\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> Monday night. \u201cWhy wouldn\u2019t we begin this process? (Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Republicans, however, railed against the deal as a \u201cscheme\u201d that would enable a reckless spending spree that would cripple the country and young Americans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe American people are fed up with the Democrats\u2019 reckless spending,\u201d said Missouri Republican Rep. Jason Smith, the House Budget Committee\u2019s ranking member. \u201cThey bring forth a budget resolution that \u2026 has $6 trillion in new spending. The most spending in the history of this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Vermont Independent Sen.] Bernie Sanders may have lost the presidential primary, but his policies have won,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The deal also advances Democrats\u2019 voting rights bill named for the late congressman and civil rights activist John Lewis, setting up a vote to pass it in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats had remained at odds for weeks over how the House should approach the infrastructure package and budget. Dozens of progressives have <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/24\/ilhan-omar-nancy-pelosi-joe-biden-bernie-sanders-elizabeth-warren-american-jobs-plan-chuck-schumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vowed to oppose the bipartisan bill<\/a> unless the House first passes the budget, a mammoth spending bill that addresses priorities from climate change and childcare to health care and immigration, giving Pelosi little room for error given her slim three-vote majority.<\/p>\n<p>Following the progressives\u2019 demands, however, nine moderate Democrats pledged the opposite, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/13\/house-moderates-block-budget-infrastructure-law-nancy-pelosi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vowing to tank their party\u2019s budget<\/a> if the House did not first pass the infrastructure package.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the lives of hardworking American families at stake, we simply can\u2019t afford months of unnecessary delays and risk squandering this once-in-a-century, bipartisan infrastructure package,\u201d the group, led by New Jersey Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/25\/problem-solvers-caucus-take-charge-biden-call-unity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Gottheimer<\/a>, wrote on Aug. 13. \u201cIt\u2019s time to get shovels in the ground and people to work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response to their position, Pelosi, who had previously committed to bringing the budget to the floor first, floated passing both simultaneously, but <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/16\/nancy-pelosi-floats-infrastructure-budget-simultaneously-moderates-progressives-feud-chuck-schumer-congress-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to no success<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/23\/moderate-dems-double-down-vow-block-budget-infrastructure-first\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Take The Win\u2019: Moderate Dems Double Down, Vow To Block Budget Unless Infrastructure Bill Gets A Vote First)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7267168\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"33\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7267168\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-7267168 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/GettyImages-1336002829-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Rep. (Kevin Dietsch\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The group of nine doubled down on their stance Sunday, calling on the House to \u201ctake the win\u201d and send the infrastructure bill to Biden\u2019s desk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are firmly opposed to holding the president\u2019s infrastructure legislation hostage to reconciliation, risking its passage and the bipartisan support behind it,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy joined their ranks Monday evening, further damning the vote that was supposed to take place. \u201cI cannot in good conscience vote to start the reconciliation process unless we also finish our work on the infrastructure bill,\u201d she wrote in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/opinion\/guest-commentary\/os-op-stephanie-murphy-infrastructure-we-need-it-now-20210823-ncuwnypronhddpk3z5duzbobsm-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Orlando Sentinel op-ed.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite the budget\u2019s advancement, the $3.5 trillion figure is unlikely to translate into law. Moderates in the Senate have echoed their House counterparts regarding their concerns over the bill\u2019s size and lack of scope, meaning that the bill as written <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/23\/kyrsten-sinema-doubles-down-against-democrats-3-5-trillion-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">will not survive a 50-50 Senate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema in a statement Monday called the bipartisan package \u201ca historic win for our nation\u2019s everyday families and employers,\u201d and said it, \u201clike every proposal, should be considered on its own merits.\u201d He added that \u201cproceedings in the U.S. House will have no impact on Kyrsten\u2019s views about what is best for our country \u2014 including the fact that she will not support a budget reconciliation bill that costs $3.5 trillion.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/23\/kyrsten-sinema-doubles-down-against-democrats-3-5-trillion-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Sinema Doubles Down Against Democrats\u2019 $3.5 Trillion Budget)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Shortly after Sinema\u2019s comments, West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin urged the House to \u201cput politics aside\u201d and pass the bipartisan package first.
