The law, which makes exceptions for medical emergencies but not in cases of rape or incest, is scheduled to go into effect September 1.<\/p>\n<p>It has raised the ire of pro-abortion advocates as it allows \u201cany person\u201d to sue doctors, abortion clinics, or anyone who \u201cknowingly engages in conduct that aids or abets the performance or inducement of an abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those who sue over an abortion may be awarded $10,000 \u201cfor each abortion that the defendant\u201d performed, induced, aided, or abetted in violation of the law \u2014 monetary amounts that some pro-abortion advocates are <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoyAnnReid\/status\/1414556649004703748?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">calling<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cbounties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>Simpson <\/span>Tuegel argued that the Heartbeat Act attempts to block attorneys from providing legal advice on obtaining abortions and <span>\u201ccreated a framework that pits attorneys against their own clients<\/span>,\u201d according to a press release from Simpson Tuegel Law Firm. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/12\/joy-reid-texas-abortion-jennifer-rubin-roe-v-wade-taliban-texas\/\">(RELATED: \u2018This Is Talibanism\u2019: Media Melts Down Over Law Giving Americans Power To Sue Abortion Clinics, Doctors)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"View Michelle Simpson Tuegel Lawsuit Against TX Heartbeat Act on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/521336544\/Michelle-Simpson-Tuegel-Lawsuit-Against-TX-Heartbeat-Act#from_embed\">Michelle Simpson Tuegel Law\u2026<\/a> by <a title=\"View Mary Margaret Olohan&#039;s profile on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/user\/506904746\/Mary-Margaret-Olohan#from_embed\">Mary Margaret Olohan<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cDon\u2019t let the different packaging fool you. This bill violates the rights of women to seek lawful medical care, as well as the rights of those who protect them to do their jobs,\u201d Simpson Tuegel said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cBy filing this lawsuit,\u201d she continued, \u201cI intend to send the message to women in Texas who need help now and in the future that they still have advocates who are committed to protecting their health and welfare. Though SB8 intends to silence me and other attorneys like me, I will continue to provide legal advice to women who contact me, even if the law goes into effect on September 1st.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The law has sparked a backlash from abortion advocates, Democrats, and media figures who have compared the law to the Taliban and the dystopian show The Handmaid\u2019s Tale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo now Texas Republicans are putting bounties on pregnant women,\u201d MSNBC\u2019s Joy Reid tweeted in July. \u201cI almost hate to ask what this benighted party will think of next. This is Talibanism. Are Texas conservatives going to be spying on women of childbearing age and turning them in for the bounties?\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"7.5339366515837\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">So now Texas Republicans are putting bounties on pregnant women. S.B. 8 intends to protect those beating hearts from elimination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of helping her clients obtain abortions, I urge this attorney and others like her to connect clients to the over 2,700 organizations like Human Coalition,\u201d Youman said. \u201cThese non-profits come alongside women to give them permanent solutions such as the resources and assistance they need to lead healthy, stable lives alongside their children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republican Texas Gov.
