(Alex Wong\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 1:02 PM PT \u2013 Saturday, August 21, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>Joe Biden has released a new batch of individuals he thinks should serve in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/08\/20\/president-biden-announces-his-intent-to-nominate-three-individuals-to-serve-as-ambassadors\/\">key ambassadorships<\/a>. On Friday, Biden announced his intention to nominate career diplomat Nicholas Burns to be the U.S. ambassador to China. Burns served in high-level diplomatic positions under the Clinton and Bush administrations.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Biden tapped former Mayor of Chicago and Chief of Staff to former President Obama, Rahm Emmanuel, to represent the U.S. in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the ongoing failures witnessed in Afghanistan, it will be incumbent upon Mayor Emanuel to demonstrate strongly his ability to represent America\u2019s vital interests in the region, and to protect the thousands of our citizens that are in Japan on any given day under the U.S. Ambassador\u2019s Chief of Mission authority just as I did,\u201d said former U.S. ambassador to Japan, Sen.
