But the truth on the ground is that these people who are in fear of their lives can\u2019t get through,\u201d Pannell said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.7595307917889\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DavidMuir?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@DavidMuir<\/a>: \u201cThe president said he has no intelligence that the Americans have not been able to get [to the Kabul airport]. Biden said the administration has \u201cno indication that they haven\u2019t been able to\u201d get to the airport, pointing out the agreement made with the Taliban to provide safe passage for those with American passports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have no indication that they haven\u2019t been able to get in Kabul through the airport,\u201d Biden said. \u201cWe\u2019ve made an agreement with the Taliban thus far, they\u2019ve allowed them to go through, it is in their interest for them to go through so we know of no circumstance where American citizens \u2013 carrying an American passport \u2013 are trying to through to the airport. But we will do whatever needs to be done to see that they get to the airport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president later appeared to backtrack slightly when pressed on the fact that his comments don\u2019t add up to the reality on the ground. One reporter asked if he was \u201csaying equivocally that any American is getting there and past the security barrier and to the planes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNo, I thought the question was how could they get through to the airport outside of the airport,\u201d Biden said. \u201cAnd the answer is, to the best of our knowledge, that the Taliban checkpoints, \u2013 they are letting through, people showing American passports.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNow, that is a different question when they get into the rush and crowd of all of the folks just outside of the wall near there. That is why we had to \u2014 I guess was it yesterday or the day before, we went over the wall and brought \u2026 169 Americans,\u201d Biden continued, adding that it\u2019s a \u201cprocess\u201d to figure out how to get Americans into the airport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s chief international correspondent Clarissa Ward, speaking to the network from the Kabul airport, detailed her difficult experience in getting there. She said, \u201ctechnically, it\u2019s possible, but it\u2019s extremely difficult and it is dangerous.\u201d Earlier, Ward warned Americans on the ground of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/20\/cnn-clarissa-ward-kabul-airport-white-house\/\">dangers<\/a> they faced attempting to get to the airport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery gate has dozens if not hundreds of people waiting outside for their one window of opportunity,\u201d Ward explained. \u201cAnd by the way, they\u2019ve already had to beat their way past the Taliban checkpoints, through fighters with whips and guns, even to get to that stage. Then once you get there, you begin the long journey. I\u2019ve been talking to people on the ground here who have been in this airport now, this compound, for two full days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had difficulty getting into the airport,\u201d she continued. \u201cIt\u2019s like a Rubik\u2019s cube. I won\u2019t share the details of how we did get in, but it\u2019s very difficult. It\u2019s very difficult. It\u2019s not a simple process at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Moments after Biden\u2019s speech, Politico congressional reporter Andrew Desiderio tweeted, citing multiple people on the call, that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had just briefed House lawmakers about Americans being beaten by the Taliban in Kabul.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis statement alone from Austin contradicts a lot of what Biden just said at the White House about Americans not having a hard time getting to Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul,\u201d Desiderio tweeted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"8.4467213114754\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This statement alone from Austin contradicts a lot of what Biden just said at the White House about Americans not having a hard time getting to Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Andrew Desiderio (@AndrewDesiderio) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AndrewDesiderio\/status\/1428797137148600322?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 20, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden, in his speech Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/20\/joe-biden-allies-withdrawal-british-members-parliament-critics-afghanistan-kabul-taliban\/\">also claimed he\u2019d<\/a> seen no criticism from allied nations regarding the withdrawal, despite criticism coming just days ago from British Members of Parliament (MPs).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact of the matter is, I have not seen that. The matter of fact is, I\u2019ve gotten the exact opposite,\u201d Biden claimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have seen no question of our credibility from our allies around the world. I\u2019ve spoken with our NATO allies. We\u2019ve spoken with NATO allies, the secretary of state, our national security adviser has been in contact with his counterparts throughout the world and our allies, as has the general \u2014or, excuse me, I keep calling him a general \u2014 but my secretary of defense,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Days earlier, multiple MPs went after Biden after he apparently did not call Prime Minister Boris Johnson back for over a day as the situation devolved in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"11.217391304348\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">If the US evacuates all Americans safely, unlikely there\u2019s lasting impact on Biden\u2019s domestic popular support.<\/p>\n<p>But his credibility with coalition allies has been seriously damaged.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ian bremmer (@ianbremmer) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ianbremmer\/status\/1428788323498307594?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 20, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In another confusing moment, Biden seemed to backtrack on a promise he made to get all Americans out of Afghanistan even if it means staying past the Aug. 31 withdrawal deadline. The president <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/18\/joe-biden-afghanistan-taliban-abc-interview-kabul-evacuation\/\">vowed to do so<\/a> during an interview Wednesday with ABC News.<\/p>\n<p>One reporter asked if he was committed to staying past the 31st to ensure all Americans and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants are evacuated. Biden said he thinks \u201cwe can get it done by then\u201d but noted they\u2019d be making \u201cthat judgment as we go.\u201d During the same speech, Biden promised that the administration is \u201cmaking the same commitment\u201d to the Afghan allies as they\u2019ve made to get Americans out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis initial response was yes, I offer them the same commitment, but again, he then started hedging with things like \u2018we\u2019re going to do all we can,\u2019 and when asked if he would extend the Aug. 31 deadline to get those allies out, he didn\u2019t really answer that question,\u201d an ABC News anchor said.<\/p>\n<p>ABC News\u2019 chief Washington correspondent Jon Karl responded, saying that \u201csadly\u201d he doesn\u2019t believe the U.S. is committed to getting the allies out no matter what. He also pointed out how the president \u201chedged\u201d regarding that question.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of contradictory statements right now at this point, especially after just hearing from the president,\u201d ABC News\u2019 network correspondent Stephanie Ramos said. \u201cAnother point that I wanted to highlight is that he said efforts will continue over the coming days to continue to draw down and get those Americans and Afghans out. But then he also said that he is unsure of the outcome. So it goes back to that question: What happens after August 31st when there are still Americans and allies stuck there in Kabul and the surrounding areas and we get to that deadline?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, the president has said he will come up with a different plan at that point and address it at that point, but it\u2019s a really great question. There is just \u2013 we\u2019re hearing two different stories here.
