Footage of the aircraft shows that it is a real plane.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Taliban forces entered Kabul, Afghanistan, on Aug. 15 and captured both the city and the presidential palace, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2021\/8\/15\/taliban-continues-advances-captures-key-city-of-jalalabad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to Al Jazeera<\/a>. Since then, several U.S. C-17 aircrafts have evacuated American citizens and U.S allies from Kabul, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/joe-biden-middle-east-kabul-taliban-3b850a19ba426dfa82e3f0533c33402d\">Associated Press<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Now, a viral image on Facebook claims the aircrafts are actually inflatable \u201cdecoy\u201d planes. The post contains two photos: one on top showing a C-17 along with text labeling it as an \u201cactual aircraft\u201d and one on the bottom showing a blurry photo of a C-17 with dozens of people next to it with text labeling it as an \u201cinflatable decoy plane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust like the planes on 9\/11\u2026Not real,\u201d the post\u2019s caption reads. Check Your Fact recently debunked a baseless claim that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/08\/09\/fact-check-september-11-terrorist-attacks-airplanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">no planes were used<\/a>&nbsp;in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.&nbsp;<span><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/08\/09\/fact-check-september-11-terrorist-attacks-airplanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Facebook Post Makes False Claim About 9\/11 Terrorist Attacks)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Videos of the plane, however, contradict the post\u2019s claim. Footage compiled by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/kabul-airport-people-fall-from-planes-leaving-afghanistan-videos-photos-2021-8\">Business Insider<\/a> of one of the evacuations shows a C-17 airplane with the same \u201c1109\u201d number on the front seen in the Facebook image moving and its engines can be heard. A <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TOLOnews\/status\/1427204278695997442\">video<\/a> posted on Twitter by Afghan news outlet ToloNews shows dozens of people running beside the aircraft while it moved down the runway. Some people were climbing on to the side of the plane as it moved.<\/p>\n<p>A similar video, showing the same aircraft, was published by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2021\/08\/17\/afghans-us-transport-flight-photograph-cram\/\">Washington Post<\/a> on Aug. 17. The caption of the video reads: \u201cAfghans and foreigners rushed to the Kabul airport on Aug. 16 in hopes of leaving the country as the Taliban declared victory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If the plane was inflatable, the sides would have moved as people climbed on it, yet in the video, the plane appears completely solid.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Air Force will be investigating several deaths of Afghan civilians who were crushed by landing gear and fell from the plane after climbing on the outside of the moving aircraft, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/nation-world\/air-force-to-investigate-afghan-civilian-deaths-as-jblm-based-c-17-took-off-from-kabul-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Seattle Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An image\u00a0shared on Facebook over 440 times purportedly shows an \u201cinflatable decoy plane\u201d recently used in Afghanistan.Verdict: False The plane shown in the picture is not inflatable.
