The article appears to be fabricated.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Screen grabs of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CSfzQ8QL7dy\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=d5daa388-1325-4ed3-b5b9-f8a0d06e8c67\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">supposed article<\/a> have been circulating widely following the Pentagon\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/08\/09\/politics\/defense-department-vaccine-mandate\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aug. 9 announcement<\/a> that it plans to make COVID-19 vaccines mandatory for military service members by mid-September. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/07\/09\/fact-check-cnn-article-joe-biden-troops-haiti-assassination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did CNN Publish This Article About Joe Biden Sending Troops To Haiti?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CSfzQ8QL7dy\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=d5daa388-1325-4ed3-b5b9-f8a0d06e8c67\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a>, the alleged headline reads, \u201cNaval medical study finds serious side effects to COVID-19 vaccines,\u201d while other text claims, \u201cA study conducted by the Naval Medical Center Coronado found that 60% of Sailors who had been vaccinated with 2-shot series vaccines are now at high risk for heart disease.\u201d The article looks like a syndicated story from the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>A keyword search on the Military Times website turned up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/search\/57649419\/?q=heart+disease+covid+vaccine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">no matches<\/a> for the article in the Instagram post, nor <a href=\"https:\/\/militarytimes.com\/author\/meghann-myers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">does<\/a> it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/author\/matthew-lee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">appear<\/a> among the stories listed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/author\/ellen-knickmeyer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">author<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/author\/robert-burns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pages<\/a> of the people in the purported article\u2019s byline. Check Your Fact <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also didn\u2019t find<\/a> any article reporting about such a Navy study on the Associated Press website.<\/p>\n<p>While the alleged article claims the study was conducted at the \u201cNaval Medical Center Coronado,\u201d there is <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiego.tricare.mil\/News-Gallery\/Articles?Search=covid+heart+disease\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">no mention<\/a> of it on the website of the Naval Medical Center San Diego and Naval Branch Health Clinic Coronado. The Naval Branch Health Clinic in Coronado provides \u201ckind, compassionate medical care to all Active Duty Service Members assigned to the Naval Base Coronado\/North Island Area of Responsibility and to all dependents, retirees, and federal employees,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiego.tricare.mil\/Clinics\/NBHC-Coronado\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Naval Medical Center San Diego\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The article in the Instagram post appears to have been fabricated. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CSf6bBOLDB3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Another image<\/a> of a supposed Military Times headline that makes a similar claim about Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine recipients is also fake. That headline \u2013 \u201cNew study shows an astronomical amount of Pfizer and Moderna vaccine recipients developed heart disease\u201d \u2013 cannot be found on either the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/search\/43587168\/?q=pfizer&amp;tf=31-d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Military Times website<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/search\/43587168\/?q=pfizer&amp;tf=31-d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There have been some reports of adolescents and young adults experiencing heart inflammation after receiving mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, but such cases are rare, and most patients who received care recovered quickly after treatment and rest, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/safety\/myocarditis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> (CDC).
