Who would make up something so insane?<\/p>\n<div class=\"thm-piano-mop\"><\/div>\n<p>Let\u2019s start with the PC prayer, which has to be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GReschenthaler\/status\/1345866081815187459\">seen<\/a>\u00a0to be believed. It is addressed to the monotheistic God, who has many faces and names, thereby offending only atheists and polytheists. And it concludes with, \u201cAmen and awomen,\u201d as if the \u201cmen\u201d of \u201cAmen\u201d was somehow a gendered term. How patriarchal and bigoted to use the \u201cmen\u201d word in prayer!<\/p>\n<p>Of course, \u201cAmen\u201d comes from the common Semitic root\u00a0<em>\u2019-m-n<\/em>, with the word itself meaning, \u201cSo be it.\u201d And it is used in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic liturgy, being found in Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and Arabic (along with English and many other languages).<\/p>\n<p>But who said being PC had anything to do with truth or reality? To the contrary, it is quite often based on the denial of reality, or, in this case, complete ignorance of a common word.<\/p>\n<p>Following the logic of this prayer, we would have to learn new phrases like, \u201cmaking awomends,\u201d since \u201cmaking amends\u201d contains the dreaded m-word. Or, we would have to learn to be \u201cawomenable,\u201d lest we allow a male-dominated word like \u201camenable\u201d to remain on the books. (Go ahead and make up your own list of words containing \u201cmen.\u201d This is madness.)<\/p>\n<p>Not to be outdone, though, House Democrats have revealed their new, \u201cfuture-focused\u201d rules, which include the following: \u201cIn clause 8(c)(3) of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rules.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.rules.house.gov\/files\/BILLS-117hresPIH-hres5.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rule XXIII<\/a>, gendered terms, such as \u2018father, mother, son, daughter,\u00a0brother, sister, uncle, aunt, first cousin, nephew, niece, husband, wife, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother, stepsister, half brother, half sister, grandson, or granddaughter\u2019 will be removed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn their place, terms such as \u2018parent, child, sibling, parent\u2019s sibling, first cousin, sibling\u2019s child, spouse, parent-in-law, child-in-law, sibling-in-law, stepparent, stepchild, stepsibling, half-sibling, or grandchild\u2019 will be used, instead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, this is what the future looks like? This is what it means to be inclusive?<\/p>\n<p>A particular highlight of the new rules is this: \u201cThe Office of the Whistleblower Ombudsman, for instance, is renamed in the rules to the \u2018Office of the Whistleblower Ombuds.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How can you not love\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/new-democratic-house-rules-gender-neutral-curtail-gops-ability-force-gotcha-votes\">this<\/a>? How creative! How futuristic! How absurd!<\/p>\n<p>The best response was that of the House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPLeader\/status\/1345170980335923201\">tweeted<\/a>, \u201cThis is stupid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSigned,<\/p>\n<p>\u201c- A father, son, and brother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well said. Stupid it is.<\/p>\n<p>For others, however, these were bold and commendable reforms. As\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IlhanMN\/status\/1345138763941478400\">expressed<\/a>\u00a0by Rep. Ilhan Omar (with reference to the entire rules package, in particular, with regard to Medicare), \u201cEnd of Nov, the Progressive Caucus decided on a set of progressive rules reform priorities: Paygo reform and MTR reform ranked high on that list.So grateful to Chairman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepMcGovern\">@RepMcGovern<\/a>\u00a0for helping us secure these reforms and setting the stage for us to push for bolder agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But as easy as it is to poke fun at this ridiculous proposal, it is highly significant when one of our major government institutions wants to remove all gendered language. As the saying goes, this does not end well.<\/p>\n<p>Looking to Canada as a case in point, the Religious Tolerance website\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.religioustolerance.org\/hom_marb44.htm\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that, \u201cThe\u00a0<em>Ontario Court of Appeals<\/em>\u00a0issued a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.religioustolerance.org\/hom_marb7.htm#oca\">decision on 2003-JUN-10<\/a>\u00a0requiring the province of Ontario to provide marriage licenses to, and to register the marriages of, same-sex couples. However 73 pieces of existing legislation in the province violated this court ruling by referring to wife, husband, widow, widower, and similar sex-related terms. In order to bring the legislation in synchronism with the court decision which legalized SSM [same-sex marriage], each of these laws had to be amended to include gender-neutral language.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"aside-wrapper pr\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-300x250_4\" class=\"gpt-ad ad-250\" data-google-query-id=\"COzb7oy2gu4CFdrIKAUdTPQEVQ\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/6177\/slm.townhall\/columnists\/300x250_4_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>You might say, \u201cSo, what\u2019s the big deal. This is just technical, legal language. It hardly affects the person on the street.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not so. This reflects both a mindset and a legal logic, and these things reflect where a culture is headed.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, over time, these things do trickle down, especially in the wake of the wave of transgender activism, where the war on gender-specific language becomes more pitched.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpw-inline-col\">\n<div class=\"mpw-inline-col__row\">\n<div class=\"mpw-inline-col__content\">\n<div class=\"mpw-inline-col__muted\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>That\u2019s why, in 2016, Canada passed Bill C-16, which critics claim was all about compelled speech, specifically with regard to charges of hate speech for failure to comply with transgender preferences.<\/p>\n<p>The most famous critic was Prof. Jordan Peterson who rose to international fame when he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/torontoist.com\/2016\/12\/are-jordan-petersons-claims-about-bill-c-16-correct\/\">said<\/a>\u00a0in an October 2016 interview, \u201cIf they fine me, I won\u2019t pay it. If they put me in jail, I\u2019ll go on a hunger strike. I\u2019m not doing this. I\u2019m not using the words that other people require me to use. Especially if they\u2019re made up by radical left-wing ideologues.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"aside-wrapper pl\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-300x250_5\" class=\"gpt-ad ad-250\" data-google-query-id=\"CODu7oy2gu4CFaPdKAUddvgOeg\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/6177\/slm.townhall\/columnists\/300x250_5_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Having studied the methods of totalitarian regimes for many years, Peterson drew the line when it came to compelled speech. He knew all that it implied.<\/p>\n<p>As to where this kind of legislation can go, in 2019, I spoke face to face with a Canadian man involved in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/04\/29\/authorities-arrest-canadian-father-refers-trans-child-real-sex\/\">legal dispute<\/a>\u00a0over his daughter\u2019s desire to transition to male. Not only did the court rule that he could not interfere with her getting hormone treatments, but he was forbidden to call his own daughter by her given, female name or to use female pronouns with reference to her, even in private, under penalty of immediate arrest.<\/p>\n<p>And we have recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stream.org\/if-you-think-were-exaggerating-just-look-to-norway\/\">documented<\/a>\u00a0the new \u201chate speech\u201d laws in Norway.<\/p>\n<p>So, as laughable as the \u201cAwomen\u201d prayer might be, and as absurd as the House\u2019s \u201cgender-inclusive\u201d rules might be, we should take both with complete seriousness and say, \u201cNot on my watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We can be compassionate to people in their struggles without engaging in gender madness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In case you haven\u2019t heard, House Democrats want to remove all gendered language from their legislation, while the prayer to open the 117th\u00a0Congress ended with, \u201cAmen and awomen.\u201d I kid you not.
