But that ignores lessons of recent history.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The push to raise attention on the pipeline comes as Nord Stream 2 nears completion. Construction on the pipeline is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/nord-stream-2-finally-complete\/av-58883415\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">set<\/a> to be completed on August 23. President Biden and German chancellor Angela Merkel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/us-germany-announce-deal-nord-stream-2-pipeline-coming-days-sources-2021-07-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inked<\/a> an agreement in July that allows the project to go forward, even though multiple American allies and partners, including Ukraine, Poland, and the Baltic countries, opposed the pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The pipeline would also endanger other transatlantic allies and partners by allowing Russia to manipulate prices and supply to pressure its customers to make political concessions,&#8221; the Republicans&#8217; memo reads.<\/p>\n<p>Other Republicans have also voiced their opposition to Nord Stream 2 and other Biden policies on Russia. Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/08\/10\/biden-cruz-death-grip-nominees-503272\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> he will block State Department nominees until the administration assures him it will carry out legally mandated sanctions on Russia.<\/p>\n<p>The memo comes as the Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/white-house-stalls-nuclear-updates-in-hopes-of-appeasing-liberals\/\">stalls<\/a> the modernization of the U.S. nuclear arsenal, a plan some experts say is worrisome in light of China and Russia&#8217;s rapidly expanding nuclear programs.<\/p>\n<p>President Biden has also failed to retrieve wrongfully convicted Marine veterans Trevor Reed and Paul Whelan, who <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/escalating-tensions-between-russia-and-u-s-imperil-wrongfully-imprisoned-americans\/\">face<\/a> brutal conditions in Russian prisons.
